Jo DeMarco of Nanuet, New York was born on October 1, 1933 and passed away on December 22, 2020 at 9:10pm at Joe Raso Hospice Residence, New City, NY.
She loved being with family, and never missed family events. Jo was present at every family celebration - marriages, birthday parties, graduations, Christmas parties, and funerals.
Born in Bronx, New York, Jo was the youngest of four children born to Biagio (Gus) Colletti (Dec. 13, 1890 - May 7, 1988) and Domenica (Minnie) Colletti (Aug. 21, 1898 - Oct. 11. 1993).
Jo is predeceased by her husband, Gori Anthony DeMarco, who died on Dec. 9, 1998 of a broken heart after losing his second child from tragic circumstances.
Jo and Gori had four children - Dana Blaise DeMarco (Nov. 7, 1954 - Oct. 3, 1994), Jill Marie DeMarco (May 17, 1956 - Aug. 23, 2014), Jori DeMarco (Nov. 13, 1960 - Aug. 17, 1998) - survived by his wife Beatrice DeMarco, and Daren Dominic DeMarco, resident of Nanuet, New York with his wife Gricelda DeMarco.
Jo also had numerous grandchildren - Ruby Lea, Aurora, Demetreus, and River - all children of daughter Jill Marie, and all with roots in Washington State where Jill Marie lived until her passing. Jo also has numerous great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Jo's siblings were her brother Vincent Colletti (Jan. 15, 1925 -May 18, 2019), her sister Trudy Stancanelli who passed away on Feb. 7, 2015, and her surviving sister, Joy Aulferi, 99 years-old, who resides in Florida.
Jo was deeply devoted to her Roman Catholic faith, which gave her strength and comfort through the trials of life, especially with the deaths of her 3 children.
She was a devoted parishioner of Saint Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Nanuet, New York.
As a parishioner, she was active at Sunday Mass. She was also devoted to the weekly parish Bible study, and the Catholic senior club. Jo made numerous trips with parish friends, and also traveled on pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
Jo prayed the rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet, which expressed her deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and to the passion and mercy of Jesus.
Jo loved Family, the Sun, Animals, Pets, and Hobbies. Jo loved the sun, the ocean, and her community swimming pool. She loved ocean vacations, and trips to the Dominican Republic (DR) with her son Daren and his wife Gri. Jo flew to the DR numerous times, and loved being with Daren and his wife, enjoying the sun and ocean life. She also loved traveling to Washington State to be with her daughter Jill Marie, and her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Jo loved animals, and her son Daren remembers while growing up, there was a time that the family had 23 pets at once. This included dogs, a cat, rabbits, and raccoons. She also loved feeding the birds who came to her Chestnut Ridge apartment patio, and she would be especially excited when the doves came. Jo loved oriental art, crossword puzzles, and reading, especially spiritual works, and action as well as thriller novels.
Jo was employed as a transcriptionist at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, New York for over 35 years until retirement.
The hospital setting was the perfect place for her to work as she exemplified kindness, compassion, and encouragement.
The Roman Catholic Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Jo DeMarco at her beloved Saint Anthony's Church, Nanuet, New York, on Jan. 9, 2021 at 11:30am. Attendance due to the coronavirus will be restricted to family only. A reading from the Mass includes these words from the Bible:
"The souls of the just are in the hands of God, and no torment shall touch them. They seemed, in the view of the foolish to be dead; and their passing away was thought an affliction.. but they are at peace." (Book of Wisdom/Old Testament)
