John Robert "Bob" Capes
January 12, 1934 - October 28, 2021
North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina - John Robert "Bob" Capes, 87, died October 28, 2021, at his home in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Funeral services will be announced at a later date.
Bob was born January 12, 1934 in Covington, Georgia to John Zack Capes and Tinnie Inez Johnson. He attended and played football at Wofford College. After graduating in 1956, he served in the Army Reserves from 1957 to 1965, obtaining the rank of Captain. During this time, Bob also worked at Southern Bell. He started his real estate career in 1964 with Tom Jenkins Realty, then formed the real estate company Capes – Coleman with John Coleman. Bob then decided to go on his own and started Bob Capes Realty, which was successful for many years. In 1998, Bob formed Bob Capes Property Management with his Broker-in-Charge Jana Dunn Carter. They later formed Bob Capes Real Estate and Property Management, which was retired in 2020.
Bob was an avid Wofford College Terrier fan, rarely missing a home game. He loved to travel, sail, water ski, and snow ski.
He is survived by his wife Lisa Capes, daughters Barbara Capes and Stephanie Capes, stepdaughter Ann Boney, and grandson Zachary Dellinger.
Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Memories may be shared at www.dunbarfunerals.com

My husband Sal and I met Bob when he was selling Yellow Page ads for Southern Bell. The association began a lifelong friendship, with countless funny stories along the way. Bob became a dance student of ours and he and Janet won a trip to Puerto Rico thanks to his bringing in the most new students. He convinced our son to join him after USC graduation - and that began a lifelong career for him. Bob was always in pursuit of new avenues to produce income. Quite a character, he was.
