John Hutcheson

October 8, 1938 - March 27, 2026

John M. Hutcheson, "Jack" of Bettendorf, Iowa passed away on March 27, 2026.

Jack was born October 8, 1938, in Perry, Mo. to George H. and Mary E. (Foster) Hutcheson. He attended St. Ambrose Academy in Davenport where he played football. He graduated from St. Ambrose Academy, class of 1957.

Following his high school graduation Jack immediately joined the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 537 as an apprentice oiler. His first job was on construction of Assumption High School in Davenport. He was lifetime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 (formally Local 537). He also served as Trustee and later President of the local union as well as being a representative of the National IUOE board. Jack retired in October 2000.

Jack married the love of his life, Sharron G." Sherry" (Barton) Hutcheon on October 4, 1958, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Davenport. Together Jack and Sherry raised their family in Davenport, Iowa. A lifelong Catholic, Jack his wife Sherry were always active in parish life. After moving to Bettendorf, Iowa in 2000, he attended St. John Vianney Catholic Church.

Jack played pool in a league for several years. He and Sherry together dedicated 20 years to coaching Dad's Club Girls Softball. Sometimes coaching two teams at a time. Summer nights were spent at the ball field. He loved being outdoors, boating and traveling. His yard was his pride and joy. He loved his flowers and spent many hours creating his own backyard park.

The most important thing in Jack's life was his family. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren endlessly and delighted in spending time with them.

Jack is survived by his wife, Sherry; children, Patricia Hutcheson – Branson, Mo., John Hutcheson, Jr – Davenport, Timothy Hutcheson (Tammie) – Davenport, Sandra Valdivia (Daniel) – Bettendorf, Gary Hutcheson (Amy) – Grand Island, Fla., JoLynn Liendo (Ricardo) – Davenport, Barbara Wallace (Christopher) – Davenport; grandchildren, Shannon Hutcheson, Cory Hutcheson, Keenan Hutcheson, Isabella Valdivia San Juan, Donovan Valdivia, Cassandra Hutcheson, Catherine Hutcheson, Collen Hutcheson, LeAnn Liendo, Amanda Holcomb Solis, Alex Liendo, Salena Liendo Reichenberg, Marcos Liendo, Tristan Liendo, Allison Wallace and Grace Wallace; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Dorothy, Madelynn, Emelia, Gabriella, Isaiah, Sophia, Alianna, Logan, Josephine, Freya, Arabella, Lylah.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Della; son, David; brothers and sisters-in-law, George "Foster" and Berniece Hutcheson, Charlie Joe and Ann Hutcheson, Glenn and Suzanne Hutcheson, James and Karren Hutcheson; mother-in-law, Eileen Landers; and brother-in-law, James Barton.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday April 1, 2026, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bettendorf. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. followed by burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Davenport, Iowa. Memorials may be made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church or to St. Jude's Research Hospital in tribute to Jack.
