John SIEKMAN Obituary

News Death Notice

SIEKMAN, John Allen Age 71, a resident of Beavercreek, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at Trinity Community and Health Care, with his loving family surrounding him. He walked the final steps of his journey to reach and be embraced by the loving arms of our Lord, Jesus Christ, Our Savior. John began his journey in life on June 24, 1944, born to Wilfred Allen and Nannie Lee (Roberts) Siekman, in the family home, and was raised on the family farm in Hebron, Boone County, Kentucky. He was baptized and took on an active role, while growing up, in the Bullittsville Christian Church, where his parents and grandparents had always been members. John was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred Allen Siekman in 1959, and Nannie Roberts Siekmen in 1999. His younger sister, Mary Dell Siekman, passed away in 2005. John is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Linda Lee (Grow) Siekmen, formerly of Danville, KY, College sweethearts, they married after graduation from Eastern KY University. They raised two daughters, Emily Douglas (Siekman) Merkle (son-in-law Gregory Charles Merkle), and Nancy Roberts (Siekman) Huff (Son-in-law, Steven Robert Huff, Jr.). Seven grandchildren have blessed our family; Logan, Liam and Chloe Merkle; Grace Elizabeth, Gabriel, Emmaliese and John-Allen Huff. John is survived by one sister, Selma Ann Siekman of Burlington, KY. He leaves behind many cousins and friends, including co-workers and acquaintances whose lives were impacted by this humble man. John graduated from Boone County High School, Florence, KY, in 1962, and from Eastern Kentucky University in 1966, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. John enjoyed being a Sigma Chi Delta fraternity brother at Eastern. He rreceived his military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, and Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. He served in the Air Force Reserves, following the Vietnam Conflict, stationed for six years at Clinton County Air Force Base , OH and Rickenbacker Air Force Base, OH. John demonstrated a strong work ethic during his 32 years of civilian service at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, first as a computer programmer, and later serving the Air Force and Government through the International Logistics Program, traveling abroad many times throughout his career in assisting the countries of Spain, Tunisia, Egypt, Kenya, Malaysia, Brazil and Germany; and in completing his career, he served the US Navy, retiring in 1998. John was devoted to serving his church in any capacity when he was called to reach out as an elder, a deacon, and leader of worship. John was also devoted to promoting Promise Keepers from its beginning, culminating in going to Washington DC for Stand In The Gap. He also served Habitat for Humanity. At the time of his passing, John was a member of Rona Community Church in Fairborn, OH. Needless to say, he loved a good game of golf any time he could play with his sister, or a golfing buddy. Playing and loving the game of golf, especially in his retirement, was a spiritual adventure, as there was no place closer to Heaven, with the call of wildlife, beautiful vistas, and whisper of a breeze. Throughout his life, John touched the lives and hearts of everyone in his path with his quick wit, encouragement and generosity. John more than met life's challenges with his health, having been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 1994, but never was there a time when a request for help was turned down. His life was a life spent with the purpose of extending a hand to contribute to another's well-being. His faith forever strong, and always with the desire to learn more about God's teachings and love for His children, John is at last, happily in the arms of our Lord and Savior, and no doubt asking God what landscaping chores He might have waiting. There will be a Celebration of John's life on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. from 1:00-3:00 PM. A service will begin at 3:30 PM Tuesday, with Pastor, Dr. James Smith of Rona Community Church, officiating. Graveside services will be 11 AM Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at the Sand Run Cemetery, located directly behind the Sand Run Baptist Church, 1327 North Bend Road, Hebron, KY. A gathering of friends will be at 12 noon, Wednesday at the Bullittsville Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation; Trinity Community and Health Care, on Indian Ripple Rd. in Beavercreek, OH; the Rona Community Church in Fairborn; or Hospice of Dayton.
