Ever since he flew to Poughkeepsie to see you, I thought "this guy's got class." Johnny always treated me with love and respect. A loss for all, may you find peace with his departure. We didn't see him enough, but what we had was "cherce."

As I was drinking my cup of Vassilaros coffee, I was thinking how I wanted to pay my respects to my former boss by being at his wake and funeral however, I currently live out of state and couldn't get away from everyday life responsibilities to attend and give my respects to a man who was and still is truly a xrisos anthropos. I cried thinking about his three beautiful sons and his wife, mother, and his siblings, along with their family putting this wonderful human being to rest. What must be going through their minds? Their hearts and souls? I so wanted to be there and do something for the family so instead I went out to weed my flower garden while my oldest son was riding his new four wheeler that he just got for his 7th birthday. As I was cultivating, I began to think that if I were at the funeral, I would have brought flowers but since I couldn't attend, an idea formulated and I gathered flowers to put in my special vase. As I gathered the flowers, I named them for his sons, wife, mother, siblings, and their family. Then I looked and searched for the right flower for John and I couldn't find one until I saw my rose bush...all the flowers had dried up and ceased however, there was one little rose bud ready to bloom and I knew it...that was Johnny...that rose was his for he is truly blooming into a new life, the afterlife. John, may you always rest in peace and kalo taksithi file mou! May you watch over all your loved ones and be their guardian angel...the angel that you were on this earth... to his family and friends: may you have long life to eternally remember him and keep him in your hearts and souls...

Johnny was my first love. I was so lucky to learn to be my best self with a boy who embraced every possibility. We remained friends and I met his beautiful wife Alex and his wonderful sons. I know he cherished every moment with them. I loved his sisters and his mom and I know they miss everything about Johnny. I send my love and light to all of you.

Words cannot express the sorrow over the loss of my dear friend Johnny V. Our families go back 3 generations and we lived parallel lives. We both were third generations running our century old coffee companies and carrying on the heritage and legacies of our Greek Ancestors. I met Johnny when I was 12 years old and he became like an older brother to me. We were always there for each other on the days when this coffee business "got to us". His love of life and his adoring family defined him. Quite simply I will miss my friend everyday! God Bless Johnny V!

I remember John fondly. As a kid I would go to the factory where my cousin Mary (Burdulis-Sforza) and my uncle Walter (Kosopod) worked in College Point. I would sit in the office with Mary and Marion waiting for my uncle to finish his deliveries. Once in a while John would let me into the room with the big table with all the beans and tell me about them. You always left there smelling of coffee. He was an elegant man and I wish peace and love to his family on his passing.
