Donatone, Joseph P.

Joseph P. Donatone, 66, of Patterson, New York and Fort Myers Beach, Florida, passed away on Saturday March 1, 2014 at home. He was born on June 6, 1947 to Louise and Achilles (Al) Donatone in the Bronx, New York. Joe grew up on Beech Street in Yonkers and resided there for many years. He graduated from Yonkers High School and Plattsburgh State University and was a special education resource teacher for 26 years in the Yonkers Public School system. He served in the army from June 12, 1967 to June 11, 1969 during which 13 months were spent in Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries incurred during the Tet Offensive. Joe is survived by his brother Thomas J. (Georgette), sister Zita (Carlo) Cistellini, niece Christine (Bob Hansmann), stepdaughter Catherine and three granddaughters Elena, Isabella and Olivia Quiles. Visitation will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on Wednesday March 5th at 10 am followed by a military service at Ferncliff Crematory. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's memory be sent to VNA of Hudson Valley, 20 Milltown Rd, Suite 101, Brewster, NY 10509.

Joey "D" Lived on the top of Beech Street, and we lived on the bottom of Beech. We were friends and nieghbors for as long as I can remember. I'll never forget how he, and my father used to trade tomatoes from each of their gardens. He always referred to my father as the "Mayor" of Beech St. He will be dearly missed.

This Sat. I have lost a special person. I knew him since I was 4. He was always considered to me as "superman" tall, strong, and handsome. Great person, from inside out. I am still shocked he is gone.He fought for this country and again at the end had to fight for his life battle against cancer but cancer won. I am only happy he is not in pain anymore. He is finally resting calm and has now become an angel to watch over us. My own son cried over his death and he saw him twice, this is how special he was , how he can touch someone's life so quickly with his smile and friendship and warm heart. He was the greatest and he will never be forgotten. I love you so much Joey!!!! May you finally rest in Peace!!! XO

Who could ask for a better friend than you, Joe? We knew you as Max, Mike Callan's (my brother) best friend and you were there for Mike as he battled his cancer.
