1942 - 2021

GRIFFITHS, Joseph W. February 14, 1942 – May 21, 2021 It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Joe on May 21st, 2021, after being stricken with a rare complication related to lung cancer. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Janice (Collins), his children, Lauren of Key Biscayne, Florida, Joseph, Jr. and his wife Olivia of South Boston, and Jon of Harwich Port. He is also survived by his sister Judy McGinn and his brother Bill and his wife Gera, all currently residing in Harwich. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Jaime, Callie, Joseph, III, and Christian, as well as many nieces, nephews and the wide circle of friends he has made throughout his lifetime. He will also be missed by his brother-in-law Billy Collins and his wife Christina of Newport, RI, and sister-in-law Joan Collins of South Boston. Joe was predeceased by his parents William and Florence, his in-laws William and Helen Collins, and his brothers-in-law Bob McGinn and Richard (Red) Collins. Joe was raised in West Roxbury and graduated from Don Bosco High School and Boston College, and was in the Marine Corp Air Wing Reserves for 7 years. After graduating from Boston College night school, he worked for several years as a C.P.A. at Arthur Andersen before branching out into the hospitality industry. Joe was an honest, talented man who worked very hard his entire life and provided great opportunities for not only his family but others as well. In the past four decades he has founded several small businesses and restaurants. Most recently he set up and operated the Dockside Seafood Shack on Saquatucket Harbor in Harwich Port. Joe and Janice raised their children in Dedham, Medway and Newport, RI. Most recently they have been living in Key Biscayne, FL and Harwich Port, MA. Joe enjoyed being on the ocean and traveling with his wife. He especially loved taking family and friends on boat trips, especially his friends from the Key Biscayne Yacht Club aboard the "Lady Jan". He and his late brother-in-law, Bob McGinn always had great stories of their many adventures bringing the boat north from Florida for Summers in Newport. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in his name to St. Joseph Church, 68 William Cardinal O'Connell Way, Boston, MA 02114 c/o Fr. Joseph White A celebration of Life Mass will be held for Joe at 11 am on Wednesday, June 16th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 246 Main St., West Harwich, MA 02671.
