Joseph Stone Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 7, 2013.
Joseph Randall Ransly Stone, a resident of East County, died on October 5, 2013 in Portland. He was 25 years of age.

Joe was born on July 17, 1988 in Portland and was the son of Randall and Kim (Kidd) Stone. He grew up in the Portland/Gresham Area and attended Centennial High School. While in high school, Joe worked as an intern for the local sports radio station The Fan. Most recently, he was enrolled at Mt. Hood Community College where he was going to study History.

Joe was a big hearted, witty person with a lot of spunk and character. He was stubborn at times but fiercely protective of his family and friends. He loved animals; especially his dogs, and loved spending time with his nephews, Holden and Sage. Joe was a sports fanatic and was an encyclopedia of sports knowledge and stats. He also enjoyed music, cooking, playing his X-Box and hanging out with his friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Joe is survived by his parents, Randy and Kim of Portland, sisters, Megan (sons, Holden and Sage) Stone of Gresham, Kelsey Stone of Portland, grandparents, Harold and Terry Kidd of Missouri and Gary and Marie Hanson of Durham, Oregon and his Aunt, JoNell Kidd of Portland along with numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

A celebration of Joe's life will be on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 11:00 am at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham. A committal will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made in memory of Joe to the Oregon Humane Society. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Donations to help defer funeral expenses for Joe Stone can be made at any US Bank branch.

Joe was such a sweet, gentle guy...we were lucky to have gotten to know him through our daughter, Katie Zilk and her boyfriend Randy Sloan. You can be proud of the wonderful man Joe turned out to be. He was an important part of our lives and will never be forgotten. I only hope in time your hearts can heal and know that the love of his friends and family will always be with all of you. We know he's watching out over all of us...that's just the way he was...

Joe is the same age as my sister- almost down to the date. I can't imagine the loss you are feeling- just remember that he is always within reach- words can penetrate time.

Our deepest and most sincere sympathy for the loss of Joe. I have many fond memories of him during the softball and soccer games his sisters had and he always seemed to keep so busy. Looking at his pictures, he stayed a busy boy and it appeared he enjoyed his life to the fullest. Your family are all in our prayers. Peace be with you all.

Oh Joey . .I feared the day when this would happen as I watched you boys grow from little on. I didn't know who would take the lead. It was hard for me to grasp when Dave shared the news and still can't quite get my mind around it. Much love and fond memories I will always have . . thank you for that. Rest in peace . . .

Joe was a good friend of mine. We only knew eachother for a short period of time (like 2 years) , but he understood me like noone else he was always there for me. A really great soul. I will miss him a lot. It's a real tragedy that such a caring soul was taken away so fast at only 25 years.. my heart goes out to the whole stone family. And ill see u on the other side Joe. <3

To my FB friend's family and friends, I am saddened by the sudden and unexpected loss of such a great young man. Though I only knew him via my son, Brandon, and FB, Joe's loss resonates through me. It's amazing how someone you only see or know through social media can touch your life!! Rest In Peace...and to his family and friends, may you find comfort in your memories...

Joey is my little brothers best friend from like 3rd grade. It is such a rare experience for two people to meet at such a young age and become such great friends for this long. Tragically their friendship was cut short. What can one say to justify the loss of such a young life. No doubt when I visit this November I would have hung out with Joe alongside my brother, and no doubt he would have teased me just as I would given it right back to him. It breaks my heart to have to write this. Sadly these have to be the last words I write to Joey because I can't attend the funeral, living so far away. Your presence always lightened the room and you were never afraid to give your opinion (especially about Oregon and Oregon State at least to me, lol) you will be missed sorely and you can never be replaced. I can picture you hanging with Tommy back in the day and it brings a smile to my face. Nothing I could say will ever justify your presence, but I hope that some of my words will make the people that cared about you most and the people you cared about most smile and rejoice in your life. Look in on your loved ones every now and again Joey, Foey!!!!!!
