October 13, 1938 - April 2, 2015
Joy Flynt Farris was born in Huntsville, Texas, on October 13, 1938 and passed away on April 2, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas. She was a very proud sixth generation Texan and was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Flynt, her daughter, Leslea Lynn Fraley Henshaw and her brother, Don Flynt. She is survived by her husband Dr. Richard Donald Farris, daughter, Andrea Elisabeth Farris Caires (John), grandson, Brevin Donald Caires, grandchildren, Devin Delaney and Zachary Louis Fraley, nieces Debra Flynt Cooper (Todd) and Dana Flynt Fletcher (Charles) and nephew, James L. She was very active, sociable and participated in many local and community activities including the Theatre and Arts, served as Co - President of the ladies San Antonio Rotary International Inner- Wheel, a member of the Countryside Garden Club, many military wives clubs, enjoyed as a young person the modeling of fashion clothing and also served at the "Bat Girl" for the San Antonio Missions baseball team. She was generous with her time, love and warmth and had a wonderful sense of humor. Joy was a strong believer, avid supporter and lifelong promoter of the importance of a religious education and consistently emphasized this to her children and grand-children. I am so sorry for your incredible loss. I always enjoyed being around Joy, and in our conversations, she would always "tell it like it is". She reminded me a lot of my own mother, and I always stood up a little straighter around her. She had such a great smile and a huge heart, and I know she will be greatly missed.

Joy was a strong, wise woman of God. The love and pride she had for her Grandchildren Devin and Zach was awe inspiring. Dr Farris, you two were so supportive of each other and it was so obvious how much you loved her and she loved you. She had an abundance of energy and served others in great ways. She inspired me so many ways! I will pray for all of you and I would love to connect with Dee to give her a special hug. Love to all of you.

Joy and I became friends 57 years ago. We had many fun times together and I just know I will never forget her. She was a fascinating woman. I miss her already, and will miss her forever. My condolences to all of her family. It takes time to get through this, as I have lost all of my family for many years. I know how they feel and I feel it with them. In loving memory, Ruth Burgess & family

There was never a dull moment when Joy was around. She was always fun, beautiful and classy. I remember so many wonderful Christmas Eves when she and Don welcomed me and all of my children into your home. I am so sorry for your loss. But know that we will treasure fond memories of her. Don, you were her Prince Charming! She hit the jackpot when she married you. We will keep you, Andrea, Devin and Zach in our prayers.
