Kent Waltermire Obituary

Kent was born October 6, 1934 in Denver, Colorado, to Kenneth Larkins Waltermire and Alice (Mountjoy) Waltermire. He grew up and attended school in Denver, graduating from South High School in 1952. He attended the University of Colorado, graduating in 1957 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He married Patricia Mattoon in Loveland, Colorado, on August 29, 1956. Upon graduation Kent worked at the National Reactor Testing Station in Idaho Falls, Idaho, for 17 years before moving to California to work for Bechtel Corporation. He worked in San Francisco and at Livermore National Laboratory before retiring in 1990, to volunteer for the Presbyterian Church. Kent first worked for the church at Ghost Ranch Santa Fe, then moved to Longmont, Colorado. His volunteering efforts there included work with the Plains and Peaks Presbytery and with the Highlands Camp in Allenspark, Colorado, where he did project control work for the construction of their Adult Residence facility, dining room and executive offices. Kent is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pat (Mattoon) Waltermire, and children Doug (Sue) of Castle Rock, Colorado, Mary of Sacramento, California, and Mark (Katie Dean) of Hotchkiss, Colorado, and four grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents and an aunt, Mary Mountjoy. Funeral services are planned for Saturday, January 27, 11:30 A.M. at the Presbyterian Community Church of the Rockies, 1700 Brodie Avenue, Estes Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Highlands Camp and Retreat Center, P.O. Box 66, Allenspark, CO 80510. Visit www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com to share condolences.

Barbara showed me what love and kindness meant when I was a student at BHS. She probably saved my life! She made sure I got what I needed. After graduation but before I left for college, she sent me off with some basic but very needed items, including an Elvis pillow. I loved her for the example she was, and it has helped form the giving adult I became. Thank you so much Barbara. Hugs and kisses.
