Lacy Weston Obituary

Jan. 11, 1921 - Dec. 29, 2016
Longtime Gadsden resident Lacy Udell Weston Jr. was called to join his beloved wife, Florene, on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016.
Lacy was born Jan. 11, 1921, in Leaksville-Spray, North Carolina. His family moved to Gadsden shortly before World War II. During the war, he served in North Africa as a member of the Army Air Corps. After the war, he worked as an automobile mechanic, aircraft mechanic and shop foreman in Bainbridge, Georgia, as well as Fort Rucker and Muscle Shoals. While at Muscle Shoals, he learned to fly and earned both flight instructor and commercial pilot certificates.
He returned to Gadsden to serve as a flight instructor with Gadsden State, teaching more than 100 students how to fly until his retirement in the late 1980s. Lacy was a veteran, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and held both Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Alabama in Gadsden.
Lacy was preceded in death by his parents, Lacy Udell Weston Sr. and Annie Lee Blair Weston; wife Florene Cranford Weston; and siblings George Weston, Jasper Weston, Emma Catherine Page and Anne Weston.
He is survived by sons Michael Weston (Nyurka) of Houston, Texas, David Weston (Monica) of Hendersonville, North Carolina; grandchildren Jeff Weston (Stacy) of Murphy, Texas, Chad Weston (Jessica) of Davidson, North Carolina, Ethan Weston (Andrea) of Verona, Wisconsin, Mindy Guthrie (Jay) of Houston, Amanda Weston of Greenville, South Carolina; great-grandchildren Jacob, Haydn, Zach, and Walker Weston of Davidson, Sasha and Wyatt Weston of Verona, Brad Flores and Ryan Weston of Murphy, and Weston and Zachary Guthrie of Houston.
Services to celebrate Lacy's life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at Collier-Butler, followed by burial at Crestwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Collier-Butler.
Lacy had many passions in his life, including flying, genealogy, computers, fixing anything and his church, Bellevue Baptist. But he was most passionate about his wife Florene, his children, grandchildren, and the great-grandchildren. He lived a full life with many great memories, and he will be missed.

Uncle Lacy was my relation, my mentor, my teacher and a extremely close friend to me, Susan and my family. He was always around if we needed him and very supportive of my parents, Olsey and Tressie. I am so thankful that we had a chance to know him and his wonderful wife Florene. He will be missed, his life influenced so many people in a positive way.
He is the reason I selected a career in aviation. For that I am so very grateful. Lacy, Thank You. Larry

My sincere condolences for the loss of your father. He was my flight instructor at Gadsden State and has always held a special place in my heart. He was always a kind and patient gentleman, a mentor for so many of us that pursued careers in aviation. He instilled knowledge, confidence and integrity, as well as a true passion for aviation, in all of us and helped us to achieve success in our aviation careers and in life. May you find peace and comfort in the love of family and friends and may good memories fill the empty spaces in your hearts.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out
to the Weston family. We have
many fond memories of Mr. Weston
and his sweet wife, as we were once
neighbors on Kenwood Circle.
