Jane began her childhood on Christy Avenue in Trumann, where she was especially close to her older sister Irma and younger brother Buddy. They learned the honorable skill of hard work through house chores such as how the bed was to be made every day by stripping it down to the mattress, starting over to make it fresh and crisp.
At the age of 15, she eloped to marry the love of her life and the father of her children, Tyre JR Davis of Jonesboro. Immediately moving to Oceanside, California, she achieved her GED and learned to drive. When J.R. completed his time in the Marine Corp, they began working in Chicago at the Victor Gasket Plant. When the first child came along, she began babysitting and doing laundry for others. Around 1962, Jane and the family moved back to Jonesboro, landing at a small house on Fairview Road. Jane spent her life working hard to provide for the family by working at Lambert’s Laundry, Gee Street Cafe, Poor Boy BBQ, Pete’s Restaurant, Dr. Donald Hudson’s office, Arkla Gas Company, and finally at Regions Bank for 37 years where she retired at the age of 79.
Being a woman who spoke her mind but only, when necessary, she was known as feisty yet loving. She was loved by everyone without realizing her impact. When a friend or loved one needed help, she literally gave what she didn't have. She scraped to get by working three jobs at times but gave without hesitation to others when needed. With her family, she immediately responded with great love, presence and whatever was needed.
In her career at Regions Bank, “Miss Jane” as she was called, was loved for her warm smile, feisty yet loving spirit and her beautiful connections with her customers. She was even given the nickname “The Wise One,” which is how all her family sees her. Jane reflected her beautiful true self wherever she was, which turned out to be a blessing to all, family, friends, and anyone she was near. She had the ability to make people feel comfortable whether in her home or in front of her desk.
Jane carried a passion for sewing and collecting Silvercrest glass as well as other antique items. She began sewing her own clothes at a very young age, continuing with her children’s school clothes. In later life, her zeal grew as she created her own patterns of quilts. Jane has shared her hundreds of quilts with many others.
A celebration of her life will be held at Emerson Memorial Chapel on Friday, October 10 with Danny Russell and Don Blackmore officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation is at 1:00 with her celebration service at 2:00.
