Alonzo Simmons, Jr., 61, of Jonesboro, passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. He was born on August 10, 1964, in Augusta, Arkansas, to the late Alonzo Simmons, Sr. and Pearl Simmons.
Alonzo spent his career serving others as a night supervisor at Consolidated Youth Services, where his steady guidance and kind heart made a lasting impact on everyone around him. He was known for his easy smile, his sense of humor, and his ability to bring people together wherever he went.
A man full of life and laughter, Alonzo enjoyed hanging out with friends, traveling, playing basketball, cooking, and especially playing cards—poker nights were some of his favorites. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren. A diehard Miami Dolphins fan, Alonzo cheered his team on with unwavering loyalty every season, win or lose.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Simmons.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of ten years, Shelisa Simmons of Jonesboro; two sons, Alonzo Simmons III “AJ” of Conway and Damian Davis of Jonesboro; five daughters, Rachel Wilborn (Cardell) of Jonesboro, Sheeba Wesson (Willie) of Conway, Ophra Simmons of Conway, Talya Haskins of Conway, and Diamond Simmons of Memphis; nine brothers, Michael Simmons of Conway, Jason Simmons of Augusta, Brian Knowlton of Jonesboro, Ken Knowlton of Jonesboro, David Scott of Jonesboro, Jay Briscoe of Kansas City, David Gladney, Ray Crumpler, and Malcom Harvey of Memphis; and two sisters, Sharry Simmons of Jonesboro, and Lucille Simmons of Jacksonville, Arkansas.
He also leaves behind his uncle who was more like a brother, Shelby Clark of Jonesboro; twenty-three beloved grandchildren—Nariah Wilborn, Amiyah Wilborn, Zaniyah Wilborn, Tyrone Allison, Jr., Tyrah Allison, Tyler Allison, Tylen Allison, Cylen Amos, Jaidyn Amos, Zion Simmons, Mason Simmons, Zavier Wiley, Zyhaire Simmons, Zy'niyh Cox, Kace Simmons, Karter'Jai Simmons, Londyn C. Simmons, Damien Davis, Jr., Roman Davis, Kashton Davis, Jackson Davis, Kamron Davis, and Xavien Davis; along with several nieces, nephews, and countless friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be private.
