Larry Oakeson Obituary
1943 ~ 2024
Herriman, UT-Larry Oakeson passed away peacefully March 25, 2024 at home surrounded by family. Born to Don & Maxine Oakeson on January 30, 1943, he was raised in South Jordan and graduated from Bingham High School. Larry served in the Army and married Diane Dean on November 23, 1966.
He was a mentor, coach, and friend to many. A very social man, his favorite place to be was around his firepit swapping stories with whoever dropped by. He enjoyed a variety of sports, but it was chariot and horse racing that he loved. He made his adventures into traditions: Yellowstone & Jackson Hole, Fort Bridger, Marsh Lake, Blacks Fork River (where Oakesons have fished for generations), & hunting for elk, deer, and fowl. Thanks to all the friends he made at pie and coffee & also the warm room.
Larry is survived by his wife Diane, children: Cray (LeaAnn), Chad (Carolyn), and Angie (Cody), grandchildren: Blake (Ariana), Hanna, Landon, Ben (Shirsten), Jackson (Dharma), Gabby (Derek), and Niels, great grandchildren: River, Renegade, and Rharix, his dog Ace, and his horse Jack, siblings: Ken (Gwen), Merlene, Donna (Jay), and Janice (Russ). He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ned.
The family would like to publicly thank the wonderful neighbors that've been like family to Larry & Diane: Roy, Smoky, & Beth, and also to Allison at Serenity Hospice for her invaluable knowledge and care.
Visitations: Friday, March 29th, 6-8pm & Saturday, March 30th, 11:30am-12:30pm at Family Funeral Care - 13001 S 3600 West in Riverton. Graveside will be Saturday, March 30th, 1pm at South Jordan City Cemetery - 10630 S 1055 West in South Jordan. Celebration of Life after the service 3:30-5pm at Larry's home.

Larry was my boss at Sperry 40 years ago. Great guy to work for and just an all-around great guy. He did indeed have lots and lots of stories to tell....especially remember his chariot racing stories. Condolences to Larry's family. RIP Larry
