Larry, the man with the eternal smile. I remember the glory days of MVH with Larry and his pack with such happy happy memories. I am attaching the 1989 yearbook photo of Larry when I insisted the staff dress in costumes depicting past eras. As you can see, Larry was always a good sport (although I stand by my belief that Romans didn't wear sunglasses!!!) You will never never be forgotten dear Larry.

The glory days of MVH are forever in my happiest memories. Larry...the man with the eternal smile. Am attaching his 1989 yearbook photo...the year I made everyone dress up in costumes depicting periods of time in history. As you can see, Larry was always a good sport (and I stand by my belief that Romans didn't wear sunglasses). Whenever I'm having a bad day, I look at those photos of all those great people and the good memories flood back. Thank you to Larry and his pack for starting my teaching career off on such a positive note. You will be missed and never forgotten!

Well, I remember him from high school, Grossmont, and that car he had, what was it? a model T? Anyway we all took turns riding in the rumble seat - Larry, Bobby Swenson, John, Phil - and so many of us. We had great memories long ago. God bless his family and friends.

I was fortunate to not only teach with Larry but also coach football with him. We had a lot in common, young, growing families, love of Hawaii, and a fear of Bud Aubuchon. The fear was unfounded because with out Bud I am not sure either of us would have been at Mar Vista High School. When I look back at those time I feel blessed that I was able to call Larry, Bud, and Paul Syverson, all of whom have now passed on, as my friends. I was always amazed that Larry was able to teach ninth grade social sciences for all those years. The book was designed for a semester course but it ran for a full school year. Larry was creative and dedicated to giving his students a rich curriculum. To Ty, Kelly, and Derrick I want you to know that your dad never missed a chance to talk about what you were doing and how proud he was of you. May the Lord hold Larry in the palm of his hand until that time we meet again.

To my Dad,
The heart that left is half of mine
My father, my teacher, my love
The heart that left is half of mine
Your humor, your smile, that chuckle
The heart that left is half of mine
You made me strong, resilient, the mother I am today
The heart that left is half of mine
You will be carried in my heart for the rest of my days
You left us to soon yet I know peace has found you and rest is what you longed for
Rest in peace and light with your daughter and mother.
The heart that left is half of ours.
Love you dad

I taught at Mar Vista with Larry for several years. He was always such fun in the Faculty Lounge. Teachers would come in all grumpy and Larry would lighten the mood by saying just the right thing. When he thought he'd picked up a "bug," it was diabetes. He dealt with the illness the way he did most things... with humor. Larry will be missed.

This is Teresa Herrera Arambul - Mar Vista High Class of 1986.. First and foremost, my deepest sympathies to Mr. Brockett's entire family. I am so sorry to hear that Mr. Brockett passed away. I know he is in a much better place and enjoying his new journey. The first time, I had Mr. Brocett as a teacher was in the ninth grade. He was SO funny, I always looked forward to his class. While selecting classes for the 10th grade, I approached him and asked if I could be his TA (as an elective) and he just rolled his eyes and said "oh geez, I don't wanna get stuck with you!" I was his TA during the 10th, 11th and 12th grade. LOL. What I remember most was that he never treated me like a dumb teenager. He was honest, sincere and SO DAMN FUNNY. Mr. Brockett, I know you are now playing with your daughter that you lost much too soon. Now you and she can play.

Larry was one of my best friends from little league all the way through life until we both taught school in the same Sweetwater Union High School District. I enjoyed his wife Claire and going to the beach house for a weekend. We always had a lot of fun and laughs together. Its too bad we had not seen each other for 24 years. I cried when I saw your picture Larry. Love you and miss you.

Larry was a special friend to our family, but especially to Paul. I have great memories of the Mar Vista football coaches working and laughing together. We pray that God will comfort the Brockett family and help them to remember the loving times they shared with him as their husband, father, and brother. Fondly, Virginia
