Lawrence JONES Obituary

JONES, Lawrence Arthur Lawrence Jones was born August 2nd, 1944 and passed away on January 11th, 2017. Born in Baltimore, Maryland to Lawrence H. Jones and Catherine Rose Arthur, he was the eldest boy with 6 siblings. Lawrence attended Baltimore's Calvert College, graduating in 1962. He went on to attend Villanova University on a football scholarship, graduating in 1966 with a degree in business. Drafted by the Baltimore Colts, Lawrence forego the sport he loved to start a career in sales. While working his first job with Owens Corning, he met the love of his life while making a sales call to C.R. Bard where Christina worked. On his 5th request, Christina finally accepted. They went to a movie and the Sip 'n Sup for ice cream floats. Four months later they were engaged and were married on May 25, 1968 in Maplewood, New Jersey, 9 months after their first date. The next 11 years Larry and Christina had 4 children and moved through 4 cities until moving to Roswell, Georgia, where they have lived for the past 36 years. A dedicated mentor, Larry took great joy in guiding and developing sales teams for Ethicon, Inc., demonstrated by his 40-year tenure. A stranger to none, Larry loved playing A.L.T.A. tennis, coached 8th grade football for Roswell Recreation, never missed one of his kid's events, and most recently was a well-known volunteer for Holy Redeemer Catholic School. Larry was a lover of games, the beach, Maryland blue crabs and all things family. He is survived by wife, Christina Jones; daughter Susanne Jones; son Lawrence A. Jones Jr. and wife Calley; son Michael Jones and wife Katy; daughter Meredith Jones Wilbanks; Grandchildren, Abigail, Zachary and Emily Jones, Courtney Brooke Wilbanks, Max and Ivy Jones; Siblings Kathy, Dennis, Ken, Colleen, Beth and Tim. The visitation will be held at Roswell Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 17th from 6:00-8:00 pm. The memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 18th at 10:00 St. Thomas Aquinas with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Holy Redeemer Catholic School in Johns Creek, Georgia, where Larry was a steadfast volunteer.

Chris, I only found in the Villanova magazine about Larry. Sometime ago I was trying to make plans to visit a young man with spine injury in Shepard Center. I spoke with Larry about the possibility of also meeting him. I am sorry that I was not able to make it happen. He was a good friend at Calvert Hall and Villanova. If you ever get back to Baltimore please contact me. Spook

Chris and family, I was so shocked and saddened when I learned today of Larry's passing. For the 14 years I was his assistant, I found him to be a compassionate and caring boss, not just to me but to everyone he worked with. He was hard working but fun to work with. His sense of humor always carried us through difficult times.

I am honored to have known him and your beautiful family. May God grant you comfort and peace in the difficult days ahead. His heart, sole and love will always be with you

The news of Larry's passing is shocking and sad. I had the privilege of working with Larry for many years. His knowledge, candor and sincerity made him a desirable colleague, a true friend and a caring mentor. Before we both retired, and since, we spoke occasionally and he always shared upbeat stories of his family and our mutual friends. The legacy of Larry Jones is one that his family can be immensely proud of.
Larry was a gentleman and a true professional. I feel enriched for having been his friend. May he rest in peace.

Dear Chris and family,..I'm sure there is nothing I can say that you all don't already know about your great Husband and Dad. To all of us that worked under his direction at Ethicon,..he was just as great as a teacher, supporter, friend, and manager. There is so much that he taught me that I still use every day. I can't tell you how many times he would talk about each of you and how proud he was of his family.
God bless you all,..I will see you TU and Wed.

I am so sorry to hear about Larry. I have so many amazing memories of this larger than life gentle-man. His high level if intelligence was only outweighed by his enormous heart. I worked for Larry as a sales representative for 14 years. He was more respected than any other person in the company. I often think of how helpful he was to me and our customers, how funny he was and always, always had the highest level of integrity and professionalism. Our family will pray for the Jones family. We will pray for God to bring comfort and tenderness to all of you. God Bless.
