Lawrence Rollins Obituary

Nov. 25, 1928 - Sept. 9, 2015

Long-time Woodlander Dr. Lawrence T. Rollins died Sept. 9, in Rocklin, from natural causes at age 86. Known to most as "Capp", he was born Nov. 25, 1928 in Salt Lake City, UT, but had lived in Woodland since 1965, when he joined the Woodland Clinic Medical Group as a Board Certified member of the Internal Medicine Department.

The Centerville, UT native graduated from Utah State University, in Logan, in 1950, with a major in pre-med.

In 1951, he married Pauline Jensen, of Hyrum, UT. They lived in Salt Lake City while he attended the University of Utah Medical School where he graduated in 1955. Following medical school, they lived in Rochester, NY, while he completed four years of specialty training in Internal Medicine at the University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital. He served as Chief Resident in Medicine, during 1958-59.

Dr. Rollins practiced internal medicine for six years in the USAF Medical Corps. He was stationed at Chanute AFB, in Rantoul, IL, from 1959 to 1962, and at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, AK from 1962 to 1965.

During his medical practice of 27 years at the Woodland Clinic, he held a number of medical support positions, including several years as a member of the Executive Committee, Chairman of the Department of Medicine, and as Medical Director.

As a member of the medical staff at the Woodland Memorial Hospital, he held numerous hospital positions, including Chief of Hospital Staff. He served on the Long-Range Planning Committee that implemented construction of the cardiac catheterization laboratory, intensive care units, the emergency room, and other modernization and expansion projects.

From 1978 to 1992, Dr. Rollins was a member of the WMH Board of Directors, and was vice-president of the Hospital Board until his retirement, in 1992.

He served as a volunteer Medical Director for Stollwood Convalescent Hospital, and for several years as a member of the Board of Directors of St. John's Retirement Center. He was a member of the Yolo County Medical Society, the California Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Rollins was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Rollins. He is survived by their four children, Laurie Rollins Lenzi and her husband, Gary of Loomis, CA; Larry Rollins, of Davis, CA; Richard Rollins and his wife, Alice, of Penryn, CA; and Edward Rollins and his wife, Susan, of Johnson City, TN. He is also survived by five cherished grandchildren, Trevor, Lucy and Sarah Rollins, of Penryn; and Sterling and Harriet Rollins of Johnson City, TN. Also surviving him are his brother, Joseph Rollins and his wife, Kaye, of Centerville, UT; and Bernard Rollins and his wife, Sandy, of Fruit Heights, UT.

Following his wishes, there will be no memorial service in Woodland. Graveside services will take place in Centerville City Cemetery, Utah, in Spring, 2016. The family respectfully suggests that memorials can be made to the Woodland Memorial Hospital Foundation, 1325 Cottonwood; the Woodland Opera House, 340 Second Street, The Woodland Library Rose Club at www.woodlandlibraryroseclub.com, or the charity of their choice.
