Lawrence Rosenstrauch Obituary

Lawrence Sanford Rosenstrauch February 1, 1912Ð September 21, 2007 COLUMBUS, GA— Lawrence Rosenstrauch, 95, died at his home in Columbus, Georgia on Friday evening. Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday, September 24, 2007 in Riverdale Cemetery, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. The family will receive friends at the residence. He was born in New York City, the son of Augusta Spiegel Rosenstrauch and Adolph Rosenstrauch. Mr. Rosenstrauch grew up in Flushing, N.Y., graduating from Flushing High School. He attended the University of North Carolina for three years where he played on the tennis team, graduating in 1933 with a B.A. degree. In 1936 he graduated from Harvard Law School. He served in the Judge Advocate General's Corps from 1942-1946 with overseas duty in the Philippines. While serving at Fort Benning during World War II, he met Laurette Rothschild. They married in 1945. Mr. Rosenstrauch became a member of the Georgia Bar and practiced law in Columbus from 1946 to 1970. He was also admitted to practice law in Florida, and New York. He was a former member of the Columbus Lawyers Club, Kiwanis Club, and the National Board of Arbitration. From 1970 to 1983 he lived in Fort Lauderdale and then Tallahassee, Florida. There he served variously as a trust officer of the Broward National Bank, Vice-President of Pensacola Title Insurance Co., and Department Attorney for both the Florida Department of Community Affairs and the Department of Law Enforcement. In 1983 he returned to Columbus where he was a continuing member of the Friday Friars, a lunch group of business executives he helped found, the Service Corps of Retired Executives, and a current member of the Columbus Country Club. Though an adopted southerner from New York, he loved the caring way of life in the South. He is survived by his wife, Laurette Rothschild Rosenstrauch; his daughter, Ann Kingsbury (John) of Columbus, and his son, Lawrence Rosenstrauch, Jr. (Kate) of Leesburg, VA. His grandchildren include Nicholas Brandt Rosenstrauch, Ryan Stanford, Lauren Stanford Novak (Ray), and his great-granddaughter Madeline Rose Novak.

Mrs. Rosenstrauch - I shall never forget your husband. He gave me my first law firm secretarial job in 1966 at the young age of 18. I learned so much from him and remember him with the fondest of memories. He was a true gentleman; always remembering me when I saw and spoke to him. I know you will miss him terribly after over 60 years of marriage. My heart goes out to you at this time and in the days ahead.
