LLOYD HANSEN Obituary

Lloyd G Hansen 4/28/1930 ~ 2/9/2011 With the sun shining brightly, a gentle breeze carrying the sweet Maui air and his beloved wife, Barbara at his side - Lloyd Hansen felt the warm embrace of our Heavenly Father, joining his beautiful daughter, Karen, and his dear mother and father. He was born April 28, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Christella and Grover A. Hansen. He was called to be a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Stockholm, Sweden Mission. He served for 30 months, and arrived home on Christmas Day, 1952. In 1956 Lloyd graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree. He also attained a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the US Air Force Reserve. In 1956 while attending a basketball game at South High School he caught sight of a beautiful blonde cheerleader and said, "I'm going to marry that girl!" True to his word, Lloyd married Barbara Dawn Ellertson in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 7, 1956. Lloyd was an incredible entrepreneur. He founded A-1 Quality Glass. Through many years of dedicated hard work the company expanded into four states with 28 locations. It was the largest independently owned auto glass company in the United States. He also founded National Auto Plaza in 1996. Lloyd was active with the Olympic Bid effort, hosting the International Olympic Committee at his cabin in the mountains. He travelled the world extensively with family, friends and business associates to six continents and dozens of countries. He particularly enjoyed travelling to Europe, with Germany and Switzerland his favorites. His favorite place on earth was at his cabin. He called it, "God's Country." It was there that he created treasured memories for families and friends. However you measure success - Lloyd achieved it - whether in business, family or friendships. Lloyd lived life to its fullest, making sure those around him did also. This great family man was generous with everything he had and will be missed greatly. Lloyd is survived by his sweetheart Barbara, children, Kathryn (Bradley) Reynolds, Kristy (Robert) Davis, Kimberly (Michael) Spiecha, Kory (Jami) Hansen, Kolby (Jennifer) Hansen, and 12 grandchildren. Preceded in death by his daughter Karen Penrose, sisters Carma Bennion and Nellie VanLeeuwen, and parents. There will be a viewing Thursday between 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary - 3401 South Highland Drive. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 18th at 12 Noon at the Heughs Canyon Ward, 6313 South 2300 East. Prior to the services a viewing will be held from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.

I was taken back reading about the passing of Lloyd. We somehow feel like our parents will live forever...I remember him always enjoying life and his family was his number one priority...i remember trips to the cabin with Karen and many other activities he planned so others could enjoy...having knowing how much he dearly missed Karen this will be a sweet reunion for them and a bitter-sweet loss for the family...my heart and prayers are with you all...

Dear Hansen Family,
I was saddened to read that Lloyd had passed. I saw him just before Christmas and he was excited about going to Maui. What an honor it was to know this great man. I know what a deep love that he has for Barbara and his family. He glowed when he talked about his kids and his grandkids. Thank you for the great example that he set for all of us to follow. May your memories bring you joy and comfort and May the Lord bring you the Peace that he promises.
God Bless,
Randy & Karleen Read

My condolences to the Hansen family on the passing of a great guy! I am grateful for the kind, generous, and patient next-door neighbor that Lloyd was. I always felt welcome in his home. I treasure the trips to his beautiful cabin. These trips are one of the highlights of my childhood. I smile when I recall the memories of fishing with "lucky cheese" and riding horses with Kristy.

May peace attend you at this time.

Uncle Lloyd you were such a giving man and also fun to be around. I can see you grilling steaks on the grill on 4 of July, the jeep rides were the greatest with you in the woods behind the cabin. You will greatly missed and you are very loved. Sorry I am stuck in East Texas and not able to be there but I will be there in spirit. Give a big hug to my mom for me. Love your, niece Valorie Bridges Parker
