MAMIE KRUGER Obituary

MAMIE HOWERTON KRUGER GREENSBORO Mrs. Mamie Howerton Kruger, 89, was reunited with her husband and her Savior, on April 13, 2014. She died peacefully in her sleep. A celebration of her life will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 17, at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel. Interment will follow at Westminster Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16 at the funeral home. Mamie was born in Sumter, SC to Charles Vivian and Sally Dollard Howerton. She married George H. Kruger who preceded her in death in 2006. George was a truck driver and in order to provide for his family he was away much of the time. This left Mamie to do much of the parenting of three children by herself but, she was more than up to the challenge. She was the backbone of her family and relied on her faith in God to provide and protect her children. Mamie made sure they went to church, learned the value of hard work and made sure they had what they needed. She was unselfishly dedicated to her children and wanted to make sure they were left with a legacy of strong moral values of respect, honesty and faith. Outside the home she worked with ARA for many years at various locations. She was a member of Gethsemane Methodist Church for many years. Surviving are her children and their spouses, Barbara (Don) Hasson of Suffolk, VA, Beverly (Terry) Foy of Browns Summit and Bryan (Kimberly) Kruger of High Point; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and brother, CV "Jack" (Betty) Howerton of Burlington. Floral tributes are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to Gethsemane Methodist Church, 100 NC 150 West, Greensboro, NC 27455.
