While in the United States Army, Mark served in the National Intelligence Agency. He was employed with the National Space Alliance, General Electric, Lockheed, and MD Anderson Cancer Hospital. He worked as a physicist in Columbus, Ohio. Mark was retired from National Space Alliance. Mark was the president of the National Management Association and editor of the Pelican Brief newsletter. He also helped organize the STEP Community Service Organization, in memory of his son Scott, at Dobie High School with his wife, Faye. He was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church for 35 years and was recently a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Faye Schimek, son Michael Schimek and his family, daughter-in-law Lisa Weksler, grandchildren, Paige Schimek and Jacob Schimek of New York City, New York; adopted son Kalpen Patel, his wife Kris, and adopted grandchildren Arjun, Zach and Aylana of High Point, North Carolina; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Cecilia and Bobby Brown of Charleston, West Virginia and special nieces and nephews, Aaron Brown, Giorgia De Paoli and Lucas De Paoli-Brown of Dundee, Scotland, Ryan Brown of Charleston, West Virginia and Richard Bowles of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Funeral will be on June 21, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Conroe, Texas. Final interment will be in Forest Park East in League City, Texas.
Mark adored his grandchildren, was devoted to his country and loved a challenge. Mark's favorite pastime was travel and he logged many miles to Australia, Fiji Islands, Paris, Kenya, Egypt, Scotland, Germany and many more places.
Mark enjoyed an exhilarating duck hunt, a challenging game of golf with his friends and decent hand at poker with his buddies. Mark didn't walk away from challenge, coached soccer, volunteered with community teens, helped at the local church clothing closet, and visited at the nursing home. Mark always had a word of advice or a helping hand for anyone in need. He believed in hard work and the red, white and blue. He enjoyed life to the fullest. He was surrounded by many wonderful friends and neighbors. Mark will be missed by many.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Vincent De Paul at Sacred Heart Church.

Mark you were a hard man to please but without question one of my best customers who I also considered a friend. Always analyzing everything I ever did, I got used to it after a while and just laughed. Thank you so much for sharing your confidence in me to all your friends. I always appreciated your ability to deal with my mood swings on a hard day. See you on the other side....

Respectfully always

Faye,
Very sorry to hear about Marcus. We attended school together from first grade at Saint Matthew's through Spring Hill College. Although we kind of lost touch after college, it was good to see him at our high school reunions. You and your family are in my prayers.

Sometimes in life you find a special friend, someone who changes your life just by being part of it, someone who makes you believe that there really is good in the world and for a lot of people, Mark was that friend. He certainly was the best organizer in the world and we loved listening to his stories. We feel so lucky to have known Mark, Faye, Michael and their beloved Scott. What a beautiful family. To Faye and Michael, may memories of Mark be music in your hearts and may his love and goodness always surround you. To everyone who knew and loved Mark, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mark & Faye....he was always holding his beautiful wife. What a testament of love.

Faye.....Jennifer and I will always have such great memories of Mark. He was always quick with a smile and a laugh! We were blessed to have you both as our neighbors for 8+ years. He will be missed by all. Know that you are loved and surrounded by friends and family who will be there to help you through this tough time. You can take comfort in knowing that when Mark opened his eyes that morning, he was in the presence of our Lord. What a glorious sight that must be! You know he is up there now, cracking jokes and keeping the Angels laughing. We love you!
