Margaret Ccvi Obituary

Sister Margaret Ann Toomey, CCVI
07/25/1933 - 07/08/2025
Sister Margaret Ann Toomey, CCVI, a Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, TX, has been called to eternal life on July 8, 2025, at 9:00 A.M. May she enjoy God's Presence whom she loved and served faithfully.
Sr. Margaret Ann was born Margaret Maria in 1933 to Patrick Joseph and Margaret Deeney Toomey in Rochfort Bridge, Co. Westmeath, Ireland. Sr. Margaret Ann entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word on January 20, 1951, at St. Michael Convent, Co. Clare, Ireland. On December 8, 1958, Sr. Margaret Ann consecrated her life to God by Perpetual Profession of Vows at the Villa de Matel, Houston, Texas.
Sr. Margaret Ann joyfully began her life of ministry as a teacher. She prepared for this important ministry by pursuing her BA in education from Sacred Heart Dominican College, Houston, TX. Later, she continued her formal education by earning a master's degree, also in education from McNeese University, Lake Charles, LA. With these qualifications, she taught in many Catholic schools mainly: St. Frances Cabrini, Alexandria, LA; St. Ann, Salt Lake City, UT; Our Lady of Fatima, Texas City, TX; St. Michael, Co. Clare, Ireland; and James L. Collins, Corsicana, TX. Sister also served as principal at St. Francis of Assisi, Houston, TX. Sister Margaret Ann had each student's interest at heart. She was loved and respected by students and parents alike. Sister taught for many years and later ministered in the area of formation. Through this ministry, she prepared and guided women called to the religious life. Later on, she served in Congregational Leadership as General Councilor and General Secretary. After a well deserved sabbatical, Sister returned to ministry in the area of adult literacy. Sister Margaret Ann was exemplary in this ministry as she taught her adult students with special care and attention. Sister Margaret Ann retired from active ministry in 2008.
Sister was grateful to her parents, family, friends, the Congregation, and above all, to God, who called her to the religious life.
Sr. Margaret Ann is survived by her: sister-in-law, Kathleen Toomey, brother-in-law, Paddy Daly; and many nieces and nephews in Ireland, England, Germany and Australia.
We extend our gratitude to the nursing staff and to all who cared for Sister during her final illness at St. Placidus Convent.
Sister Margaret Ann's body will be received at the Immaculate Conception Chapel, Villa de Matel, 6510 Lawndale St., Houston, TX at 5:00 P.M. on Monday, July 14, 2025, followed by Evening Praise and a celebration of her life. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Immaculate Conception Chapel, Villa de Matel on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. The Rite of Committal will follow at Villa de Matel Cemetery.
