Margaret Yates Obituary

Margaret Emily Yates , age 90 of Houston, TX passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, March 8, 2013. Margaret was born on January 24, 1923 in Williams, Louisiana and grew up in Houston where she graduated from Davis High School. She was married to Jack Yates for 58 years and spent much of their time at their beach house in Sargent, TX, where they created loving memories with family and friends. Her last 3 years were spent with Virginia Kuykendahl and her staff at Kuykendahl Health Care where she was loved and treated like family. We are ever so appreciative for the care they gave her.
Margaret worked with her brother Harry Cupples at Studewood Pharmacy for many years but her most passionate job was taking care of her family. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved to cook and was known for her potato salad, pinto beans, cornbread dressing, and homemade biscuits. When not in the kitchen, her favorite activity was cutting the entire yard with a weed eater or keeping up with all the activity on the beach with her binoculars. She also loved traveling with her family especially snow skiing and rafting down the Guadalupe.
She is survived by 3 sons, Bobby Yates, Jimmy Yates and wife Lynn, Mike Yates and wife Cheryl, 8 grandchildren, Chad Yates and wife Angee, Tyler Yates, Brook Yates, Doug Yates, Carrie Dasher and husband Robert, Troy Yates and wife Jennifer, Jared Yates and wife Amber, and Shawn Yates, and 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Carolyn Kester as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 14, from 5 to 8 pm and a service on Friday at 10:00 am at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, with interment at Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer's Association.

This week, we will say goodbye to our blessed Aunt Margaret. How she loved and cared for her family will be wonderful memory for us all! I do remember her (and Uncle Jack) watching out of those binoculars across the beach and their loving hospitality for me and my family! Mom will certainly miss her sister! We love you Aunt Margaret!
