Marjorie Byrum Obituary

Marjorie Elizabeth Bailey Byrum, 92, entered into eternal rest at her home in Hanahan, South Carolina on Good Friday, April 14, 2017.

Marjorie was born at home in Cleveland County, North Carolina on October 29, 1924 to David and Emma Earls Bailey. Marjorie came to Charleston to work as a welder at the Charleston Naval Shipyard during World War II. She was later assigned to be a timekeeper when they realized she was only 17. She met and married Clarence Edward Byrum, her late husband of 47 years, in 1946. Together they celebrated the births of three children. While Clarence served his country in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, Marjorie remained home where she raised their three children. Marjorie is the mother to Floyd Wilson Linder of Hanahan, Betty Ann Byrum (Donnie) Baxley of Summerville and Carol Elana Byrum (Al) Mazurek of North Charleston. Marjorie is survived by her sister, Irene Bailey Price Ramsey of Chesnee, S.C., her brother, Harold Van (Nancy) Bailey of Buford, Ga., her brother, David Leroy Bailey of Florence, S.C. and her brother-in-law John Thomas (Edwina) Byrum of Lynchburg, Va. Marjorie was predeceased by her sisters Aileen Bailey, Patsy Bailey Barker and Ruth Bailey Kendrick, and her brothers Boyd Leonard Bailey and Boyce Brown Bailey. Marjorie is blessed with 10 grandchildren including Albert John (Mindy) Mazurek, Ill of Goose Creek, and Andrew (Fondro) Hall of Goose Creek. She has also been blessed with 11 great grandchildren.

Marjorie's children would like to acknowledge the love and care that their Mother received from her Sunday School Teacher, Mrs. Glenda Ott and the Deacons of Highland Park Baptist Church, for their consistent care in ensuring that our Mother maintained her connection to the Church by way of her receiving the Church bulletin and Sunday service CD each week for many years. We wish to thank Mr. John Sherman and Mr. Howard Jones for their faithful visits each week and how they would always surprise our Mother on her birthday and holidays with flowers and other special treats. They were never in a hurry and spent much time encouraging our Mother through devotion, fellowship and the word of God. Our Mother loved Highland Park Baptist Church of which she was a member for 51 years.

We would also like to thank Annedisys Hospice Care. We would not have been able to fulfill our Mother's wish of remaining at home without our Nurse, Nicole, our Social Worker, Carrie, and our Chaplain, Galen Moyer. We are so very appreciative of all of the Nursing Aids that assisted us in keeping our Mother comfortable.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Amedisys Hospice Care, 1027 Physicians Drive, Suite 240, Charleston, SC 29414.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Carolina Memorial Park, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at Highland Park Baptist Church, 6211 Murray Drive, Hanahan, SC 29410 on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park.

Arrangements provided by Carolina Memorial Park, Funerals and Cremations, 7113 Rivers Ave., N. Charleston, SC 29406 (843)797-2222. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.carolinamemorial.com.

I am so sorry for your loss. Aunt Margie was such a blessing in my life and such a wonderful, sweet person. Our long distance telephone calls will be some of my fondest memories. We laughed a lot and always said we could solve all the problems of the world on the phone. I will miss those calls dearly. I know she is in a better place and is smiling down on all of us with Uncle Buddy. May she rest in peace. Love you all.

We send our love and prayers. What a wonderful aunt we were blessed with. She was so loving and thoughtful. Our hearts hurt but we are happy for Aunt Marjorie. She is walking streets of gold. I can see her sweet smile when she entered heaven. I understand the hurt you are feeling. A mother is everything to her children. I still miss mother so much. Mother has another sister with her. Blessings and love to all. We will see you soon. Tim and Nita
