Mark Algier Obituary

Mark A. Algier, 66, of Marlborough, loving father of Emily and Sarah Algier of Wethersfield, was relieved of his pain on Tuesday afternoon, October 27, 2015. He was born May 8, 1949 in New Britain and was the son of the late Albert and Helen (Januskiewicz) Algier. Besides his daughters, he leaves his former spouse and close friend, Patty Algier; cousin, Louise Garewski; mother-in-law, Linette Ohanian; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Ohanian and Dale Haslam; sisters-in-law, Betty Rogers, Sue-Anne McCue, Jo-Anne Haslam and Diane Ohanian, as well as 16 nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Karen Algier. You could have found Mark fishing, cooking, on the golf course or spending time at the dog park with his cherished Doberman, Otto. He formed many friendships during his 28 years as an engineer at the State of CT DEEP, as well as during his service overseas in Vietnam as a sniper for the U.S. Army. Special thanks go out to Brock Hallenbeck of Marlborough for giving Otto the best home possible, as well as the unbelievable amount of care and compassion Middlesex Hospital Hospice provided for Mark the last week of his life. Funeral services will be Saturday (November 7) at 10 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. Burial with military honors will follow in the State Veterans' Cemetery, Middletown. Family and friends may call on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel. I will always remember my coworker Mark Algier who was also my friend. Mark and I are Soldiers, American Soldiers, so we shared a special brotherhood. Mark always kept it real and was a good man. He stood up when our country called upon him, even when it was an unpopular thing to do. I don't think we will totally understand the costs he paid to our nation, but having a small glimpse, I can testify we all need to honor this man. As my coworker he was always helpful and truly caring. As my friend we went fishing and lived life. To Marks family, my deepest condolences and know that Mark is with Jesus and we will see him again.

I was shocked to hear of Marks passing. I worked with him at CT DEP in the mid-1990s and had recently seen him and Otto at J&B Feed & Grooming in Hebron.
