Melanie Clark Obituary

Melanie Clark
December 12, 1953 - February 7, 2025
Melanie Linda Clark was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on December 12th, 1953. She died on February 7th, 2025, in North Branford at Artis Senior Living. She suffered from Alzheimer's for many years.
She was raised in Easton by her father, Robert G. Clark. Her mother, Anne Dales Clark, tragically passed away when Melanie was a young child. Melanie was fortunate to have loving caregivers and stepsiblings throughout her childhood. She was very close to both of her grandmothers.
Melanie married William Tuthill on November 12th, 1983, in Woodbridge, where they had been active members of the Woodbridge Congregational Church. They moved to Madison in 1988, where they raised their three children - Justin, Annie, and Emma. Melanie and Bill have been blessed with three grandchildren - Luna and Harlow Kissack, daughters of Anne and Adam Kissack of Madison, and William Stellon, son of Emma and Dr. Michael Stellon of Madison, Wisconsin.
Melanie graduated from Joel Barlow High School and Drew University. She received her graduate degree in Public Affairs from American University in Washington, DC. She was employed for more than a decade in various administrative roles for the State of Connecticut, followed by more than twenty years as a residential real estate professional for both H. Pearce and William Pitt Sotheby's International. She was dedicated to her career and enjoyed her interactions with everyone in the community. She had an active social and community life. She was the Chair of the Democratic Town Committee for many years and was very active in her church and as a volunteer for Easter Seals in New Haven.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, though her relationship with her grandchildren was interrupted by her disease. The family extends their appreciation to the staff of the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center at Yale, where she was a subject in a drug study for several years, and to the staff at Artis Senior Living in North Branford, where she lived for 28 months until her passing. The family will be forever grateful for the love and care she received there.
A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Madison on Saturday, March 15th, 2025, at 1:00 PM, followed by a reception. There will be no calling hours. Committal will occur at a future date in the Memorial Garden at the First Congregational Church of Madison. Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer's Association via Melanie's tribute page.

Melanie and Bill Tuthill were the best neighbors we could have had. About 20 years we lived next door to each other before they moved to another place in Madison. When we arrived on Beekman Place, Melanie was very welcoming and helpful, it was clear she knew everything Madison and everyone in it. One of the nicest memories I have of Melanie is when she drove Lynn and myself to a nearby hospital in the Hartford area (we were at a tennis tournament in which Emma and Karen played), after Lynn lost a contact in her eye, fainted and hit the curbside. Lynn quickly regained consciousness and was fine but it was scary and Melanie insisted we go to the hospital. Her decisive action was very helpful and soothing. Another very nice memory is that around the holidays, Annie and Emma, maybe Justin occasionally too, would bring a delicious gingerbread loaf. Then there was Buddy. Karen remembers Melanie yelling "run Karen!" when Buddy came for her, which may have saved Karen´s life. Reuven and I had the same experience when Melanie asked us to fill Buddy´s food and water bowls in the family´s absence. We went for a couple of dangerous excursions to their home, which miraculously ended without injuries. Melanie and the kids loved Buddy, I´m glad we did it. Dear Bill, Annie, Justin and Emma, your families, our deepest condolences for your loss, Reuven, Loes, Britt, Lynn and Karen Rabinovici
