Melvin Dangerfield Obituary

GRAND PRAIRIE - Melvin Curtis Dangerfield was born on July 23, 1930 to the parents of Wesley and Pinkie McCarty Dangerfield in Paris, Lamar County, TX. Mr. Doc attended Lonestar Powderly Schools. He moved to Littlefield in the late 1940's to work in the farming business, then later moved to Odessa and remained there until his health failed. He then moved to Grand Prairie with children.

Mr. Doc served under many hats but was most notably known for working at the Odessa American Newspaper, Ector ISD and had his own lawn service. After over 30 years with Ector ISD, he retired and continued his lawn service until his health failed. He was also known as the "Bull of the Woods" because his love of hunting, fishing, playing dominoes and his passion for traveling. Mr. Doc was a member of St. Matthew's Baptist Church for over 50 years and a longtime member of their male chorus.

Mr. Doc is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley & Pinkie Dangerfield; wife, Bettye Smith Dangerfield; and nine siblings.

Leaving to cherish his memory, Mr. Doc is survived by Joyce Hendrix of Odessa, Carolyn Dangerfield, Jacqulyn Walter and Deveral Dangerfield of Grand Prairie. Andrea and Janalyn Givens of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren. His extended family: Debra Price (Bob) of Odessa and Ray Medlock (Val) of Abilene, Donald Harris (Marie) of Odessa and Cathy Miller of Dallas. Sister in laws: Thelma Dangerfield of Paris, Earnestine Dangerfield of Paris and Mamie Dangerfield of Littlefield. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be Sunday, June 19, 2022 from 12-4 PM at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday, June 20, 2022 at 11 AM at St. Matthew's Baptist Church followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

My Sincere Condolences to the family Doc was A Sweet, Loving, Caring Man he was A Customer of mine at Whataburger. We would laugh, talk about the good times.
