Merita Bascom Obituary
Redding, CA
October 23, 1941 - June 25, 2016
Merita died peacefully the morning of June 25, 2016 surrounded by family.
Born and raised in Redding by her parents John and Helen Reinke, Merita and her siblings, John and Mary Ann attended Shasta High School. There, she met future husband Fred Bascom, who she married in November of 1960.
Thoughout their 56 year marriage, Fred and Merita lived in Fall River Mills, Daly City, Sacramento, Walnut Creek, Concord, Clayton, Anaheim Hills and England.
While in Sacramento Fred and Merita welcomed two children; Jerry and Laura.
In 1975 they moved their family to New Maden, England where they spent many happy years traveling and exploring Europe.
After briefly moving back to California in 1980 they again moved to England in 1992. They then spent six years in Anaheim Hills before retiring to Redding in 1998.
In the past 20 years, Merita was blessed with three granddaughters; Chandler, Annalise and Amelia. She was an active volunteer at the Redding Elks Lodge 1073 where she enjoyed her Tuesday Mexican Trains, a glass of wine and RVers trips to McCloud.
Merita is survived by her husband, Fred, her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Kathleen, her daugher and son-in-law, Laura and Joe and her three beautiful granddaughters Chandler, Annalise and Amelia.
A celebration of life will be held at the Redding Elks Lodge on Saturday July 2, 2016 from noon to three.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

My condolences to Fred and family. Merita - Such a sweet light you shown on this world with kindness in your heart and love in your smile. You are missed and we all have been blessed by having known you and loved you. May God send his comforter to be with your family in this time of greatest sorrow and give them strength. While my prayers are with Fred and his family at this time, the memories of those wonderful years in EMEA Audit keep flooding through my head. My memories of Merita were of her perpetual smile and good humor towards all she met. May the good thoughts from all of the auditors that knew The Bascoms flow towards Fred at this time. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Merita and Family were are neighbors. Her mother Helen worked at Shasta Dam gift shop. Maryann and I had fun through our high school years as friends and neighbors. My sister Linda Rea (Wolverton)
and Merita we're friends and still talked at times when they would see each other.
The family were wonderful people and friends.
