Michael DeSimone Obituary

DeSimone, Michael "Mickey"

Michael "Mickey" James DeSimone, age 58, died suddenly on Tuesday December 30th, 2014 at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ. Born August 16th, 1956, to Sebastian and Barbara DeSimone in scenic Sloatsburg, NY, Mickey enjoyed a rambunctious childhood with his elder brother David and younger brother Daniel. Mickey was a revered guidance counselor, as well as a wrestling, lacrosse, and football coach at Suffern High School for 35 years. Despite his numerous athletic achievements, he was most proud of his family; Mickey is survived by his wife Sandra and his three children, Micaela, Lely and Gray. Nonetheless, he was a father figure to countless others which only solidified his significant presence within the Suffern community. Mickey was a role model, a leader and a molder of men, and to say his presence will be missed is a gross understatement. The wake for Mickey will be held on Saturday January 3, and Sunday January 4, at 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home 177 Route 59 in Suffern. Funeral Mass Monday 11am at Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River. Committal Private.

To the Desimone family
Please accept my prayers of comfort for this huge loss. As a classmate and wrestling teammate, I appreciated the friendship and respect from knowing Mickey. He made me a better person on and off the mat, whether he knew it or not. Most importantly, he was a class act who looked to make the entire team better. Smile often remembering all the good deeds and happy times with your dad, husband, brother, etc.

Mickey was the best. He truly was much more than a coach. He really got into each and every child and made you accountable. He raised your own expectations and made you earn what you got. Wrestling for him and befriending him were life changing events. His family is in my heart as he leaves a giant hole, but the truth is that he'll live on in each and every one of us who were lucky enough to spend time and grow with him. He was a teacher always and a friend as well. I can remember getting yelled at so loud because I didn't pin the guy and getting a great hug after a loss... both I needed and deserved. He will be missed and he will be in my mind and heart for the rest of my life. RIP Mickey.
