Michael Hantel Obituary

Michael "Mike" Paul Hantel
1952-2015
Michael "Mike" Paul Hantel, 63, passed away peacefully the 17th of December 2015. He was born the 6th of March 1952 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and is a graduate of Holy Cross School (1970), Tulane University (1973) and Loyola University New Orleans College of Law (1976). He worked for Exxon in New Orleans before taking a position at Dowell-Schlumberger and then moving to Houston in 1986 where he continued his career with Schlumberger Ltd. In 32 years of dedicated work, most recently as Senior Counsel, Mike became a beloved mentor and constant source of empathy and generosity to all who crossed his path. Those with whom he worked saw a small glimpse of his primary role as a loving husband and father.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Max Lind Hantel and Ursula Bohlke Hantel, and by his cherished wife of 24 years, Lynn Chimento Hantel. He is survived by his adoring wife of 15 years, Elani Gray Hantel; his beloved children, Abby, Max, and Harry; his dear brother-in-law, Charles J. Chimento; and his dear brother, John L. Hantel and wife, Barbara; and his niece, Jennifer Hantel Traina and husband, Richard Traina.
Words cannot begin to express the man Mike Hantel was and the legacy he leaves.
Please join friends and family in celebrating and honoring his life. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o'clock in the afternoon until six o'clock in the evening on Sunday, the 20th of December, at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

Mike and I met when we were kids at St. Cecilia's School. He came to my house many times. We played ball together and had bike races. He was just a great kid and I consider him a true friend. We lost touch when we left that school. He went to Holy Cross and me Nicholls but to this day I never forgot him. What a great guy.
O about those bike races I always won but now I know that he let me.
Like I said what a great guy.
Take care my friend. RIP

Our prayers go out to the family on your loss. IT was always a pleasure to see Mike and Elani during the school years. A special prayer goes out to Max from our family as your dad was a kind and solid person always there with both praise and smiles. Dominic remembers your dad as someone that welcomed him all the time on the sidelines and visits to your home. Elani, please know we are sorry for your loss and may God bless you and your family.

I first met Mike in 1986 in Houston - he was a very capable attorney - but an even better father and a true gentleman. He is , no doubt in a beter place now. I share your sorrow with the hope that we all remember Mike for the man he was and the caring legacy that touched many of us.

I don't remember when I last saw Michael because I moved to Austin after marrying in1964. My dad and Grandma Giro died in 1975. We pray for peace for the family, and we are honored to be a relative of Michael. Richard and Sandy Giro

Maureen and I were so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. It was a shock as he was the same friendly and jovial Mike I knew from soccer the last time I saw him. That was at Berings where he, like I, was picking up something he needed for the house. Mike was always such a kind, friendly, considerate and caring man.

My sincere condolences. One summer, back in the 60's, Mike and I cut grass on property owned by my father located on St. Claude Avenue in NOLA, very near where Michael resided. Mike was one year ahead of me at HC. I followed him to Loyola Law. Mike impressed me as always a kind and gentle person. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

We knew Mike and Lynn in New Orleans as we began our work lives and then parenthood. They were wonderful friends, great lawyers and even better people. They were kind, gentle and helpful to all. We will pray for their children who should know how special their parents were. May The Lord comfort each family member at this time.
