Nancy Jones Obituary

Bakersfield Nancy Louise Cawley Jones went home to the Lord on February 22, 2024 in Bakersfield, California at the age of 86. Most who knew Nancy, called her their Nana because of the love and care she showed everyone.
Nancy was born in Somerville, New Jersey on July 29, 1937 and was adopted at the age of 8 years old by Russell L. and Edith Blanche Cawley. They raised Nancy in High Bridge, New Jersey.
Nancy attended Syracuse University and graduated from the Muhlenberg School of Nursing with her Registered Nurse Degree in 1958. She went on to find her first job at Stanford University in California where she worked alongside Dr. Debakey as he pioneered studies for the first heart transplants in The United States.
Her career spanned 47 years of various nursing services. Nancy's passion led her to make groundbreaking contributions to psychiatric nursing locally. She became the Director of Nursing, both for Kern View Hospital, which later became Memorial Behavioral Health in Bakersfield. She ended her career as Clinic Director for Clinica Sierra Vista - Delano Adult Behavioral Health Center in Delano, California. Her family and friends thank her for her long, dedicated service to make life better for those who suffered unfortunate life events.
Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Russell, in 1968 and her mother, Blanche, in 1990. She is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl Hornung (husband Rick) and Lynda Flores (husband Angel), her grandchildren Paul David Hornung, Heidi Palmer (husband Elijah), and Jonathan Hornung (wife Kami) and her great grandchildren, Hannah, Noah, and Seth Palmer. Nancy was a loving mother to her daughters and beloved grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will all miss her dearly.
A private final resting destination will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary of Bakersfield.
