Nancy Temperilli Obituary

TEMPERILLI
Nancy Farrell Temperilli, ebullient Irish redhead and highly regarded 'Force of Nature', passed quietly and peacefully into the welcoming arms of her Lord on Monday, November 19, 2012. She was in heaven half an hour before the devil knew she had gone.
After a long, well-lived and wonderfully boisterous life, she is re-joined with her beloved "Johnny", her 55-year companion, soul mate and partner. They met when John, as referee, quickly fouled her out of a woman's basketball game in Simsbury, CT. It was a dubious beginning to a timeless and adoring relationship.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents, her brother Bobby, and her beloved Johnny. Nancy is survived by her sons John (Paula) and Peter, daughters Janine Long (Sonny), Tre Farrell, and Suzann Campos (Robert); seven grandchildren - JP, Patrick, Sarah, Michael, Kelley, Bobby and Sammy; and two great-grandchildren - Jimmy and October; and by her sisters Patricia and Mary Ellen.
Born to Robert Henry Farrell and Evelyn Windmiller in Hartford, CT on January 10, 1932, Nancy resided for a time on Hatchet Hill Road in East Granby, CT and was a graduate of Simsbury High School.
Nancy was an exemplary career Army spouse who traveled the country and the world with the Colonel sharing and spreading her particular brand of Irish American optimism. She was a beloved Catholic mother and grandmother, notable raconteur, gambler, fashionista, and piano balladeer. Along with her sister Mary Ellen, any Ivy League song or great American songbook selection was a target of the singing sisters from Granby, CT - anytime, anywhere.
She was much loved, and her complexities, vivaciousness, humor and love will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Our family wishes to thank profusely our brother Pete for shouldering the load and the heavy lifting of the last few years; the staff of Regent Care in Oakwell Farms for their kindness, compassion and excellence in care. Special thanks to Home Health Care Assistant Cynthia Necaise. The family is grateful to the VITAS Hospice personnel and their angelic handling of Nancy's life transition- Susanna Serrato (CNA), Antonia Amaya (CNA) and most especially Karen Armstrong (LVN).
Visitation will be at Sunset Funeral Home at 1701 Austin Highway from 5-7 pm on Sunday Dec. 2. Funeral mass will be at St. Anthony de Padua on 102 Lorenz Rd. at 11 am on Monday, Dec. 3, followed by internment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 12:30.

To the Temperilli Families,
I don't think Nancy ever knew a stranger for long. More than 40 years ago I had the priviledge of meeting her. She was boisterous BUT that was her cover for reading hearts. She was down to earth and Holy Spirit led to comfort people. Thanks for sharing her. God Bless you all! Prayers follow, Sincerely, Susan Huether

Nancy was a spark to the Water Babes and a friend and "advisor" to all of us. If there was any opportunity for fun, food and fellowship she was right in the middle of it, telling stories and having fun. she always saw the bright side and had a strong faith and dependence on God. I still expect to see her red head at the deep end of the pool every time I go to exercise. I will always remember her as a strong, dependable, woman of faith. God blessed her with a wonderful family and blessed us with her friendship. She will be missed.

My heart is sadden by the loss of one of my most wonderful neighbors ever. I will miss us both watching out for each other. Your smile and laughter will be always with me. I will have a toast in your honor. St. Patricks Day will be brighter in heaven with you there!!! Cindy Maroun

I will always cherish my memories of Nancy. She was a wonderful woman so full of life and fun. We had such a great time each year at the Dustoff Reunion...top hats, boas, carnival masks, homecoming mums and magic communicator rings. The Reunions will not be the same without her. I recall her amusement the year we shortsheeted John's bed in their hotel room. Her service as a military spouse, her patriotism, her unwavering affection and love of John and her joyous outlook on life were always an inspiration to me. She will be sorely missed. Rest in peace.

I wish to send my condolences to the Temperilli family. Nancy was a great lady. My father Joe always had great things to say about both John and Nancy.
I had several visits with Nancy at PLW as she faithfully visited and cared for John in years past. She will be missed.

Billie-Kite and I first met Nancy and John when I returned from Korea in 1955 and was assigned to the 82 MD(HA) at Brooks AFB and John was assigned to our sister unit the 57th MD(HA). It was the beginning of a long and enduring friendship. We send our fond regards and best wishes to her family.

In the early years of the Vietnam War, Nancy's husband, COL John Temperilli, was instrumental in

founding the first U.S. Army DUSTOFF Combat Helicopter Medical Evacuation unit, The 57th Medical

Detachment, which became world renowned for saving thousands of battlefield wounded. John's

leadership and personability captured the love and respect of his pilots and crew members that

continued until his death.

Nancy, from early on and to this day, with her love and sincere empathy for DUSTOFFers, became a

Well, that wonderful lady's presence epitomized "home" to those far from home and we loved her for it.
