Nathan George Obituary

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Services for Nathan A. George will be at 3:30 p.m., November 9, 2010 at Bellaire Baptist Church, with Pastors Randy Harper and Jeff Harper officiating, followed by burial at Hill Crest Memorial Park in Haughton, Louisiana. Visitation will be November 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home.
Nathan was born August 25, 1988 in Bossier City, Louisiana to David and Holly George, and died after a courageous battle with cancer on November 6, 2010, surrounded by his family. He was a shining example to all of his friends and family with his unwavering faith, strength and perseverance, even unto the end. Throughout his battle he wrote messages of faith on his "Caring Bridge," which touched the lives of hundreds, and he was eager to share his testimony. He was an active member of Bellaire Baptist Church. He was loved by all who knew him and will be remembered for his great sense of humor and loyalty to his family and friends.
Nathan graduated from Parkway High School, attended Louisiana College for a year, and was in his senior year of pre-med studies at LSUS. He loved to fish and was an avid LSU football fan. (His friends are convinced he had something to do with LSU's win Saturday night.) Active in sports, he played baseball from an early age and into college as a catcher, participated in several triathlons during college, and loved to work out with his friends at Fit Nation where he worked part-time.
Nathan is survived by his parents, David and Holly George, his brother, Bryan George, and grandparents, Bill and Betty George, all of Bossier City, Louisiana; grandparents Donald and Karen Toppett, of Shreveport, Louisiana; Uncle Scott Toppett and wife, Anne Toppett, of Plano, TX; and Uncle William George and wife, Nancy George, of Marshall, Texas, and several cousins.
Honoring him as pallbearers will be close friends, Jeff Barbera, Justin Juneau, Ryan Juneau, Trey McGuire, Bob Morgan, and Garrett Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Brady Cartwright, Ben Clark, Billy Daniel, and Jacob Koch. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the Young Adult Ministry at Bellaire Baptist Church, 4330 Panther Dr., Bossier City, LA 71112 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Avenue Memphis TN 38105.
Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Baylor Medical Center who took care of Nathan during his time there, and to Miss Jean, who brought him pancakes or doughnuts every morning.

I am a Master Gardener with Nathan's grandfather. Although I did not know Nathan, with a grandfather like Don, he must have been a good kid. He sounded like he was a great kid and was very into sharing his memories and experiences with other people. There will be a special place in heaven for Nathan. My heart and prayers are will all of Nathan's family.

David,

I got to know you and Nate through the game we all loved. This love and passion for baseball was evident in all facets of Nate's life. It was truly an HONOR to coach him for the short time I did. I had such a great time with that group of kids and Nate was one of the main reasons why. His courage during his battle with cancer truly is an inspiration and has humbled me as a person. I pray for peace for you, Holly and Bryan and want to leave you with this thought: Your son was a beacon of light. Countless people looked to him for inspiration and to be uplifted. Very few people can look back on their lives and say they had such a profound and lasting impact on other people like Nate did. I am proud to have known him. God bless all of you.
