Patricia Lowry Obituary

November 20, 1933 – September 16, 2025

Patricia Anne Lowry (nee Flaherty), age 91, of Springfield, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
Patricia "Pat" was born on November 20, 1933, in Woburn, Massachusetts. In 1953, she left the small New England town for Washington, DC where she embarked on a lifetime of adventures and accomplishments. Her professional endeavors took her from executive assistant positions within multiple Federal government Committees and Commissions. During this time, she also worked as a part time model and ballroom dance teacher. An early highlight of this time in her life was working on JFK's campaign for President in 1960. Her later career in Human Resources began with the Department of the Army. In 1985, she began a long, distinguished career in human resources in the U.S. Marshals Service, rising to position of Chief of Employment Services. During that time, until her retirement in 2007, she led the hiring over 7000 Deputy U.S. Marshals. She received numerous accolades, to include the Attorney General's Award. While working for the U.S. Marshals Service, Pat earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Maryland and George Mason University.
On January 6, 1962, she married the love of her life, William Keith Lowry Sr. Bill and Pat had three children, Mary Heather, William Keith Jr., and Patrick Joseph. In 1967, the family moved to Okinawa, Japan where Bill worked with the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1972, the family returned to Virginia. Pat was active in volunteer activities, including her children's sports, never missing a swim meet, basketball, baseball, or soccer game. That tradition carried on with her grandchildren. Pat and Bill cared for their grandchildren before and after school and hosted family dinners every Sunday. Pat and Bill were avid travelers and instilled that sense of adventure in their children and grandchildren. Every year, Pat planned family trips and cruises, favorites being family trips to Ireland, a dude ranch in Wyoming, a cruise to Alaska, a Disney cruise, and many trips to the Caribbean. In 2001, Bill and Pat traveled the world on the Queen Elizabeth II, discovering new places and making new friends. Their favorite place away from home, though, was their beach house in the Outer Banks, North Carolina, spending precious time with family and friends.
Pat faithfully attended mass at Nativity Catholic Church and was a member and President of Our Lady of Knock Society (OLOK). She never missed the annual military bridge card game or the Knights of Columbus St. Patrick's Day dinner dance fundraiser at the church. She made many dear friends throughout her life.
Pat is survived by her children Mary Heather Lowry, William Keith "Buck" Lowry Jr., (Molly), and Patrick Joseph Lowry (Kim); 11 grandchildren, Patricia Dell (Christopher); Ryan, Benjamin, Madeline, William III, and Samuel Lowry; Alyssa O'Brien (Sean), Kristen, Patrick Jr. (Marissa), Grace, and Jack Lowry; five great-grandchildren, Leo Magnotti; Brooke and John O'Brien; and Parker and Taylor Dell. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband William Keith Lowry Sr. of almost 50 years.
The family wants to thank those who cared for Pat over the past three years while she resided at The Providence in Fairfax.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, Virginia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 2 p.m., at Nativity Catholic Church, 6400 Nativity Lane, Burke, Virginia. She will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery next to her husband Bill at a later date.

I just learned of Pat´s passing late last night. I am saddened to hear of her passing. My deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences go out to Pat´s family, whom she loved dearly.

I met Pat while working for the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS).
Pat was a wonderful soul and it was always refreshing to talk to her. Pat was always helpful in the area of Human Resources with advice, guidance, information, and/or instructions; and she was passionate about getting things done and assisting others. I had the pleasure to work with her daughter Heather and her daughter-in-law Molly at the USMS, as well.

To Pat´s family, please know that I'm praying for you all. You all are in my thoughts during this grieving period. I will leave you all with the following poem:

Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still LOVED, still MISSED, and FOREVER dear.

May the Lord grant you strength and peace during this difficult time. Take care, be blessed, and stay safe.

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Matthew 5:4. KJV

I met Patricia and her daughter Heather through work at the US Marshals Service. Pat was an incredibly nice woman, and always went out of her way to help get things done. I am so sad reading that she has passed, and will say a prayer for her, for Heather, and the rest of her loved ones.
