Paul Esteves Obituary

ESTEVES Paul Albert Esteves passed away at home in Kenner, LA on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. He had just made his 90th birthday, April 23rd. He was a native of St. Bernard Parish (Chalmette). His beloved wife, Esther Moran Esteves, preceded him on October 13, 2010, and also his first wife, Mary Boudreaux. Son of the late Peter Esteves and Susie Keller Esteves of St. Bernard Parish. Brother of the late Peter, Frank, Bertha, Martin, Hazel, Anita, Elsie and Inez. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Paul is also survived by his stepchildren,: Barbara and Joseph Moran; his grandchildren: Beth Faulstich and Brian Moran; great-grandchildren: Gage, Tristen, Eva, Gabriel and Murphy; and his niece, Susie (Inez's daughter) and her family. A U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, who served on D-Day as a medic in LeHavre, France, then went on as Master Sergeant to train soldiers in the Korean War, receiving an honorary medal from the South Koreans. As a career Army patriot (1940-1961), Paul traveled Africa, Germany, France, Italy, Alaska and many more places. He proudly marched the WWII victory march into France and then settled in Italy for a few years. Even as a disabled hearing impaired veteran, Paul came back to the States to retire from the U.S. Army and worked as Construction Supervisor with LSU Medical School. He and Esther belonged to numerous social clubs, such as Nu Kappa Psi, VFW, American Legion Post 350, and others, and which in spite of Paul's loss of hearing won them awards for their social dancing and commitments to their philanthropic donations. A special thanks to angels, Beth Moran Faulstich, Fran Krantz and Nessie Krantz, who spent many days taking care of Paul, and to Serenity Hospice's endearing Nurses Laine, Ireka and Kathy, who provided excellent care, and Kenner's Ochsner Wound Care Center. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy. in Metairie, LA, on Friday, July 1, 2011 beginning at 10:00 AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM in Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home's chapel. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Heart Association. The online guestbook is available at www.leitzeaganfuneralhome.com
