Pawel Perun

1929 - 2024

NEW BRITAIN

On September 25, 2024, Pawel Perun (95) of New Britain, CT, joined his five brothers, a sister and his parents Ivan and Maria in heaven after a sudden decline in his health.

Born on July 12, 1929 in Morochow, Poland, Pawel spent his young adulthood proudly fighting in the Ukrainian Partisan Army. In 1956, the great Ukrainian patriot and WWII survivor married Anna Barniak, his loving wife of 68 years who he cherished. They had one daughter, Helen, then their family immigrated to the United States in 1959.

Pawel worked as a machinist at Fafnir Bearing in New Britain for 34 years until he retired in 1994. He was very active in his beloved St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church where he served as a volunteer and a cantor in the church choir for many years. He could be found any day tending the roses in his front flower beds and the tomato garden in his backyard, where he tried (and usually failed) at keeping the squirrels away from his harvest. He would never condone unwarranted acts violence, except on Friday nights when he would watch wrestling.

Pawel was strong willed and stubborn at times, but would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He loved his entire family fiercely and he will be dearly missed by many people. Pawel leaves behind his dear wife, Anna; daughter, Helen Grant and husband Herbert Grant; granddaughter, Danielle Anderson and husband Kyle Madison; granddaughter, Tania Pesina;

great-grandchildren, Isabella Orriola, Isaac Orriola, Michelle Candiotti, Michael Pesina, Jr. and Dallas Pesina; and countless family and friends.

Calling hours will be held at New Britain Memorial & Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home located at 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, CT on Monday, September 30th from 5 p.m.-7 p.m.. Funeral services will be held at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church located at 303 Eddy Glover Blvd, New Britain, CT on Tuesday, October 1st at 10:30 a.m. with burial services to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) (https://ucca.org) where Pawel was a long-time member.
