COLUMBUS, GA- Peggy Levy Hecht, 89, of Columbus, GA, died Sunday, January 28, 2018 at her residence.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Temple Israel, 1617 Wildwood Avenue, Columbus, GA 31906 according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA. A private interment will be in Riverdale Cemetery. Rabbi Beth Schwartz will officiate.
Mrs. Hecht was born August 16, 1928 in Montgomery, AL, daughter of the late Alfonse and Bernice Levy. She served locally on many boards and volunteered countless hours for many charitable organizations including the Springer Opera House, The River Center, The Chattahoochee Council Boy Scouts of America and the American Heart Association. Mrs. Hecht was a member of Temple Israel where she served with the Jewish Ladies Aid Society and Hadassah. Mrs. Hecht was also very dedicated to her family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hecht was preceded in death by a daughter, Gay Lenner and a son, Randy Hecht.
Survivors include three children, Chuck Hecht (Jane), Lorrie Taylor (Ben), and Kim Harding (Michael); one son in law, Rick Lenner; nine grandchildren, Carson Comer, Laura Poe (Matt), Benjamin Taylor, Brian Taylor (Alex), Jonathan Lenner, Alison Lenner, Ashley Hecht, Michael Harding (Kelsie) and Kathryn Harding; two great grandchildren, John Fletcher Comer and Charles James Taylor.
The family would like to express many thanks to Mrs. Hecht's caretakers, especially, Melissa Moore.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Charles K. Hecht, Jr., Youth Fund at Temple Israel, 1617 Wildwood Avenue, Columbus, GA, 31906 or to the Chattahoochee Council Boy Scouts of America, 1237 1st Avenue, Columbus, GA, 31901.
