Dr. Peter Griffin Kirby of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on December 7, 2024, at home with his beloved wife, Joan, at his side. He was 85.
Peter was born July 25, 1939, in Geneva, NY, the son of Albert and Martha (Nichols) Kirby.
A 1957 graduate of Geneva High School, Peter received a BA in History from University of Rochester in 1964, an MBA from Syracuse University in 1968, and a PhD in Adult Education from the University of South Florida in 1985.
Peter joined the Army in 1960 and served until honorably discharged in 1962.
Peter married Dr. Joan Biever on March 31, 2006, in Lakeland, FL.
Peter retired as a Professor of Business Management from Our Lady of the Lake University in 2006 after 28 years of service. Prior to his academic career, previous positions included Vice President of Human Resources, Manager of Management Development, and Manager of Personnel. He served on the Board of Directors of Usio 2001 – 2016 and the Quatsino First Nation Economic Development Corporation, Port Hardy, BC 2007-2008.
Peter was a lifelong lover of the game of golf. He was on the University of Rochester golf team for three years. His Geneva High School golf team was inducted to the Geneva, NY, Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. He golfed in the 2013 National Senior Games.
Peter is survived by his wife, Joan; children Pete (Arianne) Kirby, Heidi (Kurt) Russell, and Heather (Kyle) Scallan; stepdaughter, Chai (Steven) Swinford, and grandchildren Mason Kirby, Justin Russell, Kayla Russell, Kelsey Scallan, Carly Scallan, and Mason Swinford. Preceding Peter in death are his parents, Martha and Albert Kirby; brothers Michael Kirby and Thomas Kirby; stepson Tai Cook, and lifelong family friend Doris Coats Scherer.
