REBECCA VINCENT Obituary

REBECCA "BECKY" A. STARK VINCENT, 83, died peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021, with her family and their love for her at her side. Born Dec. 26, 1937, in Fort Wayne, she was a daughter of Evelyn and Paul Brinkroeger. She attended South Side High School where she met her first husband, Jack Stark. Together, they had three children, Holly, Jill and Jack. Becky was a loving mother and grandmother, who always had a bright smile for her children and grandchildren, offering quiet and gentle support. She expressed her creative side through her home, crafts, and artful letters. "She loved Fort Wayne's Foster Park especially when the flowers were in bloom and helped us learn to stop and appreciate the sunshine and blue skies." She began working in the 1950s as a secretary for a manufacturer, then later in the banking industry. During the 1970s and 1980s, she worked as executive secretary to the president of Gripco Fasteners in South Whitley, Ind. She later worked for Lincoln Life, retiring in 1995. Becky was an accomplished athlete and gymnast beginning in high school. In mid-life, she became a runner, competing in road races often winning her age group. She shared her active lifestyle with her family, including canoeing, swimming, and boating at Pigeon Lake where the family had a cottage. During her career as a full-time working mother and wife, she always took care of those she loved. When she was a young mother, she nursed her own mother during a critical illness. At home, Becky served as family taxi driver, chef, and confidant. She swung hammers on family building projects and later supported Jack's business venture into the pizza industry. "We will never forget her sound advice for life, "stay warm and busy." Without fail, she was there for her family, in all pursuits and travails with optimism, good humor, and a gentle loving spirit." In the last years of her life, Becky courageously battled dementia. She is survived by her husband, Allen Vincent; children, Holly McCammon, Jill Stark (O'Donnell) and Jack Stark, Jr.; four grandchildren, two stepchildren, and four step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Donna Niemeyer; and brother, Michael Brinkroeger. A Celebration of Life is from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021, at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, with a time-of-reflection service at 2:30 p.m. Donations can be made to the Indiana University School of Medicine Anatomical Education Program, 635 Barnhill Drive, Medical Science Building 5035, Indianapolis, IN 46202.
