Richard Bergen Richard Bergen left us at 90 years of age on December 26, 2010 to be with the Lord, his family, and many friends. He is survived by his daughter, Kandy Bergen; his son, Douglas Bergen and wife Sheree; three grandchildren, Douglas R. Bergen, Jr. and wife Kim, Harlan C. Bergen and wife Julie, and Dana G. Case and husband Tim, along with six beautiful and loving great-grandchildren. Dick, as he was known, served his country for 20 years in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Commander. He then became an Assistant Dean in the School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. After leaving the University he began a home health business, establishing five locations throughout Texas and one in Oklahoma. He also helped establish the Texas Home Health Association. Dick later established the Cigarette Snufit business and traveled around the country selling "Snufits". He also became involved in the horse business and raced both quarter horses and thoroughbreds throughout Texas. He and his third wife, Lillian, traveled extensively. In the past six years he has primarily remained in Austin being a teacher, listener, and mentor to his family and many friends. He will be greatly missed by all. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Cook-Walden/Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home located at 9700 Anderson Mill Road. I was in Cdr Bergin's NROTC Supply Corp Class for two years (1954 and 1955) and was commissioned into the US Navy Supply Corp in September 1955. As a civil engineering student, Cdr Bergin was my first contact with the business world. Although I practiced engineering my entire professional career including owning and operating my own business, it was my contact with Cdr Bergin and his positive outlook on life that gave me the tools and confidence to handle the business world. I can truly say that Cdr Bergin was a great role model.

Our condolences to the Bergen family. You are in our prayers. Mr. Bergen was quite a guy and a friend who was always ready to share
a conversation.
