Richard Deichmann Obituary

Col. Richard E. Deichmann, Sr., aged 90, died on October 24, 2023 in Plano Texas, where he had been domiciled since September 2021 following Hurricane Ida. He was born in New Orleans on December 22, 1932, to the late Arthur and Bertha (Maestri) Deichmann, Sr.; and late grandparents William B. and Johanna (Kirchmeyer) Deichmann, and Paul A. and Adela (Meda) Maestri, Sr., all of New Orleans. Col. Deichmann's beloved wife of 55 years, Marlene (Harmon), predeceased him in 2012. He too was predeceased by siblings Arthur, Jr. (Ann, deceased), Dorothy Prohaska, and Daniel (Linda). He is survived by children Richard, Jr. (Cecile), Douglas, Paul (Laura), and Laura Albert (Thomas); grandchildren Elizabeth, Claire Valentine (Wesley), Paige Patrick (Clayton), Alexandra, Caroline, Lauren Sand (William), Katherine Schraegle (Colby), and Thomas Albert, Ill; great-grandchildren Laurel Schraegle, Gracelynn Schraegle, Augustus Schraegle, Gabriella Sand, William Sand, Charlotte Sand, Richard Patrick, and James Valentine; sister Rita Case (Walter); and many nieces and nephews. Col. Deichmann graduated from both St. Aloysius High School and the University of Notre Dame. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1955, where he was initially stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC, and served on active duty for two years as an Artillery Officer. He continued with many years of service in the Marine Reserves. In 1965, he was elected president of the Greater Baton Rouge Council of the Navy League. Col. Deichmann for many years was involved in real-estate and was a businessman in the mobile home industry, having been associated with several local firms including Alto, Bel-Air, Sterling, and Express Movers. In retirement, he was proud to serve as a Deacon in the New Orleans Catholic Diocese. A visitation for Richard will be held Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM, and interment thereafter in Metairie Cemetery.
