Richard Manlove Obituary

March 12, 1918 - May 28, 2011 OKLAHOMA CITY Richard "Buddy" Manlove, 93, went home to be with the Lord on May 28, 2011. He was born March 12, 1918 to Leonard Glen and Emma Ellen Manlove in Yale, Oklahoma. He graduated from Classen High School in 1937. Richard married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy, on Nov. 11, 1939. He joined the Army Air Corps during WWII and served oversees in the India-Burma operation flying the "Hump" until the end of the war. He retired as Comptroller of the Oklahoma State Highway Department in 1980. Richard has been a member of the Baptist Temple in Oklahoma City since 1948. His wife, Dorothy, preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, Robert Manlove and wife Harriet; his daughter, Linda Rains; four grandchildren, Adam Manlove, Tracy Otterson and husband Tim, Amy Phillips and husband Russ, Angie McNeill and husband Justin; and 8 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Baptist Temple Memorial Fund. Services are pending with Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Directors. Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier. One died for your soul, the other for your freedom. MANY SEEM TO HAVE FORGOTTEN BOTH.

Linda and Robert, so sorry to hear of the loss of your dad, but so glad that you were blessed to have him for so many years. I only met him once in 1958 when I rode over on my bicycle. I remember getting the once over from a loving pop. God Bless you both.

Buddy was a very special cousin. He and Dorothy were wonderful people. We haven't gotten to see Buddy in recent years but kept up via e-mail. We'll miss that. Our thoughts & prayers are with Linda & Robert and their families.
