I knew Dick as a high school classmate in our boys school in Kansas City. I thought back, now that I see of his tremendous work as a mediator, to early signals of that interest when we were young. And my recollections match: he was a gentle soul, unruffled by the typical rivalries that high school boys get into, a great student and good friend. On behalf of the PemDay class of 1968, our condolences to Linda and the Sher family.

We lost an outstanding lawyer who knew how to help parties resolve what sometimes appeared to be an unsolvable problem. I will always remember Dick for his professional manner and kindness to everyone. This is a very sad time an a great loss to the legal profession. Frank Janoski

We lost a true pioneer in our mediation profession when Dick left us last week. He's been instrumental in bringing the message of mediation to his community and far beyond, for nearly a quarter of a century. We in AAM are blessed to have benefitted from his leadership. We are proud to have had him as a colleague in our young profession since he participated in the basic mediation training program of The Acaedemy in April of 1994. Our thoughts, and prayers, are with his family, friends and colleagues. He will be missed.

It is a privilege to have known and worked with Dick. I am honored to be able to call him a true and dear friend. He loved and cherished his family. He treasured his work. As a pioneer in alternative dispute resolution, Dick led by example by setting the bar for being one of the best mediators and arbitrators. I guess heaven had a calling for a mediator to resolve a dispute, so God chose Dick. Dick will be missed by all whose lives he has touched. Linda, stay strong. You and your family have a great support network.
