Richard Weckwerth Obituary

Montville - Richard Weckwerth, 81, died at home in Uncasville, on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, after a long illness.

Richard was born in Milwaukee, Wis., to the late Richard and Adele (Walters) Weckwerth on Oct. 3, 1930. After completing high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for 20 years, 16 in the submarine service. He fought in Korea and served abroad. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, Richard worked for another 22 years as a supervisor at EB until retiring.

In May of 1953, Richard married his beloved wife, Marilyn (Varney) in Lynn, Mass. Together they raised their family and made cruises their respite, enjoying 36 of them while married. Richard was a member of the Sub Vets in Groton, Sprague Rod & Gun Club, Montville Center Congregational Church, and the Montville Senior Center.

In addition to his wife, Marilyn, Richard is survived by his son, Richard S. Weckwerth and his wife, Holly, of Ledyard; brother, Gerald Weckwerth of Milwaukee; sister, Susan Varney; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Rhonda DiLallo; brother, Kenneth Weckwerth; and sister, Diane Parker.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen, 53 Norwich-New London Tnpk., Uncasville. Burial with military honors will immediately follow at Maplewood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society.
