Dr. Amato saved my life in 1991 from testicular cancer that had spread through my lymph system into my lungs. I am just reading about his passing and will never forget his smile, kindness, compassion and professionalism. See you in the next life.

My name is Dave Claghorn, and I worked with Bob years ago; he was a customer of mine. There was a time, in 2005/06, when I was going through a pretty rough divorce and my life just wasn't good. He was always caring and lent an ear in what was arguably a blurring of the professional lines of Medical Liaison and customer. Bob always seemed to care so much about me and what I was dealing with. He would call me, randomly, out of the blue, just to make sure I was doing ok. We'd talk about "stuff". That's all I needed. I moved out of Texas in late 06, but I'd always try to see him at our large cancer congresses just to check-in. He was, no, he IS a man who cares deeply about people. Patients, friends, colleagues, etc. Indeed, he was "one of the good ones". His passing saddens me, and I'll miss seeing him at ASCO every year, but I will always have the memory of what Bob meant to me and how he cared about being a doctor and helping people.
Vaya con Dios, Bob. You probably never knew how much you meant to me.

Lauro Roybal

My name is Lauro Roybal and live in Monterrey Mexico. Dr. Amato saved my life! When nobody here in Mexico would give me any hope for life, Robert, with that big smile of his said to me: "Don't worry, I've seen worse, I'll pull you out" And he did. That was more than 5 years ago when first diagnosed with prostate cancer with metastasis all over my body.
Dr. Amato was an incredible man, humanitarian and man of science. My wife and I loved him and prayed for him for a long time when we found out about his cancer. We just found out today, four months after the fact.

We send our love and gratitude to him and his family. He will greatly be missed. He was truly a great man and we look forward to seeing him again in a better place.
Rest in peace my friend and Doctor Robert Amato.

I am from Canada and Dr Amato treated my rare cancer at 1994. When I met him I told him you are too young / in my mind I was expecting older doctor at the time and he replied with laughter "I think we will like each other :) ".Dr Amato was the most caring and compassionate doctor I have ever met.I will forever be grateful for Dr. Amato. This is not fair/ I am still in shock , RIP /till we meet each other again .

This man was never far from my thoughts. The first time my wife and I met in his office (i had just been diagnosed with an aggressive prostate cancer), Dr Amato used the word "cure" and that got my attention!!! His treatment did in fact cure me ( 3years with a "less than zero PSA") and of course i am eternally grateful. He took medical leave near the end of my treatment and i tried to follow his updates but it wasn't easy. Now i see that he is no longer on this earth. He is the most straight forward, dedicated and concerned doctor i ever met. Blessings to his family and friends. The man is a true hero in my book and his memory will never leave my heart and mind.
Peace to you Dr. Amato.

So sorry for the loss of such a great man. He treated my husband Stephen for 10 years until his death from prostate cancer. Dr Amato's continued optimism allowed us to live those 10 years with hope and joy. His work and his memory will live on but he will be missed.

Dr. Amato treated my wife Katherine for kidney cancer for the better pat of 19 years. Because of him and his excellent support staff my daughter grew up with a mother. Dr. Amato was a truly great man bringing hope and extending life to those around him. The world is a lesser place without him. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Dear Dr. Amato took care of my husband with prostrate cancer. He was the most caring and helpful doctor. He helped so many. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace.

October, 2015: I wasn't sure if Dr. Amato was more excited to tell me of my continued low PSA -- and to clear me to run my first half marathon -- or to give me advice on how to actually accomplish the race itself. His confidence, patience, expertise, and determination inspired me to "live healthy, one day at a time, letting God and my doctor take care of the rest" (and to run that race with "negative splits").

Thank you family, friends, and colleagues for being a part of the life of Dr. Robert Amato. Many of us cancer "thrivers" have been, and will continue to be, blessed by the life he lived.

In prayer for all of us as we grieve his loss.
