Robert Claitor Jr. Obituary

Robert G. Claitor, Jr. (1959-2024). Rob prayed, one day at a time, the Serenity Prayer, asking God to grant him the serenity to accept the things he could not change, the courage to change the things that he could, and the wisdom to know the difference. Rob was born and raised in Baton Rouge. His youth was spent in the University Acres neighborhood. He was always some form of a Tiger. He was a Highland School Tiger, a U-High Cub (1977) and an LSU Tiger (1981). He was fond of reminding his brothers that he was the only one in his generation of the family that graduated college in four years. Rob officially joined his father, Bob, in the family book and real estate business upon graduation from LSU. Long before that, as a youngster in the summers, Rob took business road trips with his father and brothers buying and selling law books all over the nation. Whether the crew was rumbling down the dusty back roads of Texas or snaking through a swampy part of Florida, Rob could be counted on to sing along to the a.m. radio, especially if it was a bouncy country tune. As an adult member of the business, Rob did everything from running the presses to calling on members of Congress. Sometimes he led the projects, sometimes his role was support, but he was always a solid team player. Rob was an outstanding high school athlete and a lifelong outdoorsman. He was the best fisherman and wing shooter you ever met. He was exceptional at introducing youth to the outdoors and always had room in his blind or boat for one more hunter or fisherman, more so for the folks that did not get the opportunity to go often. Whether someone was less fortunate or more fortunate than he, Rob would give a person in need all the help he could without exception. He was a kind and loving person. We know he is now a kind and loving soul. Rob is survived by his wife, Monique, and her adult children, Robbie Alford, and Justin Hukins. Rob had a special bond with his grandchildren, Madison, Hartlee, and Ellie. He supported the small ones in all their endeavors. Rob was a fixture at the grandchildren's events at Parkview Baptist School in Baton Rouge. Rob is also survived by his brothers, Dan and Jon, as well as their wives, Sharmaine and Molly, and their children and grandchildren. One of the last family events Rob attended was the a birthday party for his twin grand nephews. Rob's smile and enthusiasm lit up the party more than the birthday candles. Rob was predeceased by his mother, Nancy Carolyn McLellan Claitor, and his father, Robert G. Claitor, Sr., as well as his brother, James Dean Claitor. Visitation will occur Monday, April 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street in Baton Rouge. Visitation will occur again the following day, Tuesday, April 16 at 9:00 a.m. and services will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by his burial. I am heart broken about this news. "Sweet Young Rob" was such a wonderful gusto of a man! There aren´t too many people that deserve this title. He was the best and oh, so kind!
Funny beyond belief.

I just found out that Rob passed and the world will miss him. What a fantastic guy and what fond memories we have of the many decades; from small kids growing up in the acres and over the many years since. We all spent a good part of our childhoods at the house on Highland - listening to music, eating, swimming, playing games, riding anything with wheels (and then some), and so much more! I hope that we can all find peace and remember how much love, good music, food and fun was shared, and how much more we can share. My deepest sympathy and condolences for everyone´s loss.

Dear Claitor Family,
I am deeply sorry for the loss of Rob. Our whole family loved Rob, & he was one of Bilwood´s BFFs. I am so sorry that none of the Smith clan was able to attend Robs funeral or wake, but as you may know, Bilwood is dying and on hospice at home , so we are trying to spend some time with him daily. Please know we love y´all & you are in our thoughts and prayers . , Jennifer Smith Culotta

Such very sad news. Rob and I were close friends growing up. We grew up a couple houses away and I spent my childhood over at the Claitor´s house. There are so many memories that come to mind. Over time I´ll try to share some of them here. But for now my heart is very sad and I wish we could return to those fun and innocent days of childhood again.

Dear Claitor Family,
I am so very sorry over the loss of Rob, whom I´ve known & loved most all my life! Rob was fun, hilarious, always had a smile on his face. He used to take us water skiing in the bay in Florida! He was as a joy to be around, and will be sorely missed by the entire Smith family. We were fortunate to spend many Christmas Eve nights with your family, which was something we always looked forward to. God bless you all. You are in my thoughts and prayers and have my deepest sympathy. Love, Jennifer Smith Culotta
