Robert Daniel "Dan" McGatha Obituary

Funeral service for Robert Daniel "Dan" McGatha, 74, of Jacksonville, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gray Brown-Service Chapel. Burial will follow at Jacksonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. MaGatha passed away on Friday at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Survivors include his wife, Jane McGatha; one daughter, Sara Mangum; two sons, Howard McGatha and Floyd McGatha; two brothers, Thomas McGatha and Dexter McGatha; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Mr. McGatha is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Georgia McGatha; sister, Vivian Fulmer; brother, Johnny Ellis McGatha; grandson, Aden McGatha. Pallbearers will be Tim Hicks, John White, Sammy Coppock, Bucky Mangum, Justin Ledbetter and Jon Locke. Mr. McGatha was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. He was retired from the U.S. Navy where he served an SCPO and he also served three tours in Vietnam. Mr. McGatha loved hunting, fishing and going to the Huddle House. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who always put his family first. Mr. McGatha also retired from the Anniston Army Depot.
