I just found Rob's obituary today as I was wondering what happened to him after we left the county attorney's office. He used to always tell me he didn't expect to move past 60. I guess he beat the odds. Which is not unusual for him. I want his family to know what an incredible man he was. In particular, how loyal he was through some very difficult times as we fought the good fight to clean up some shady politics. I knew I could always count on him. Sammy, at least that was your name back then, I would love to tell you some stories about your dad someday. I never seen a father so proud. Regardless of what was happening in the office, when you walked in his face would just light up and all of his cares were forgotten.

I was sorry that I couldn't attend the graveside service for Rob. Our Dean family lived on Roosevelt Ave with the Howell family close by us. Rob and I played together everyday. I loved going to your house and watching your mother Mary Howell make candy. She was a master at making candy! After both our families moved, Rob I became friends again at Hillside Jr. High and Highland High. Our class reunion last week wasn't the same without Rob Howell there! He will be missed. I always enjoyed visiting with Mary Moss when she taught school at Olympus. It was fun to see her there.

Learning of Rob's death was a major shock at the Highland High School 55th reunion, held a week and a day after his passing. I live in Logan and had not seen an obituary for him. I remember on the 45th class reunion seeing Rob and him noting that we had lost a daughter to an untimely death that year. He was the only person there who had noted that event. Rob was in the Explorer Scouts and the Teachers and Priests' Quorum of the Parley's First Ward. He had a knack for acting, and I can remember his performance in at least one road show and one Spring Sing, under the direction of Sis. Margaret Beecher. His wit and compassion were missed at the class reunion and will be missed by many in the future.

My sincere condolences to Rob's family. I had the pleasure of officing next to Rob for many years during my time at Prince, Yeates & Geldzahler. During that time, Rob offered mentorship and guidance to me as a young lawyer. I enjoyed the opportunity to work with him on a few projects (and indulging in Margeo's chocolates!) and I will miss our chats and seeing him around town. I'll keep Rob's family in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
