Robert Earl Jones August 31, 1930 - November 20, 2008 COLUMBUS, GA — Robert Earl Jones, 78, of Columbus, GA died Thursday, November 20, 2008 at his home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel with Reverend Mark Magoni officiating. A private family burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Mr. Jones was born in Ozark, AL on August 31, 1930; son of the late Daniel Phillip Jones and Lillian Bussell Jones. He has lived in Columbus for most of his life and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He graduated from Baker High School and Troy University. Mr. Jones was an avid runner and enjoyed the outdoors. He served as past president of the Sertoma Club, past president of the American Heart Association, and past president of the East Columbus Boys Club, he was active in Meals on Wheels, and a member of the Columbus Track Club. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp as a Capt. Mr. Jones was the owner and operator of D.P. Jones Electrical Company. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rudy Jones. Survivors include his wife, Nettie P. Jones; three sons, Phillip Jones and his wife, Myla, Matt Jones and his wife, Cindy, and Murray Jones and his wife, Sharon; a daughter, Maribeth Lane and her husband, Bob; and grandchildren, Caitlin Jones, Spencer Jones, Ryan Jones, Martin Jones, Madison Jones, Rowdy Lane and Sawyer Lane.
