Robert Rhoads
SPRINGFIELD, IL - Robert D. Rhoads, 87, of Springfield, passed away at 8:16 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2015, at Concordia Care Center.
Robert was born March 11, 1928, in Wauwatosa, Wis., to William C. and Velma Shoop Rhoads. He married Barbara Ann Coe on April 9, 1949, in Detroit; she preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 2014.
Robert obtained his bachelor's degree from Augustana College, and retired from IDOT in 1983 after 32 years of service. He was always musically inclined. In his younger years, he performed on the radio with the Detroit Boys Choir and, throughout his life, enjoyed playing the piano. Robert also enjoyed a number of other hobbies, including golfing, fly fishing, restoring classic foreign cars, and traveling via motor home with his family.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William Eugene Rhoads.
Robert is survived by his son, William E. Rhoads of Springfield; two daughters, Karen Rhoads of Cobb, Calif., and Nancy Rhoads (husband, Jerry) McDonald of Springfield; and step-granddaughter, Ashley McDonald (companion, Justin Gurley).
Memorial Ceremony: The family will host a memorial ceremony at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Concordia Village Chapel, 4101 W. Iles Ave., Springfield, IL with Pastor Chris Nilges officiating. A private family burial will be held.
